Default Timing questions for you HCI and larger ci cars

Just curious what rpm you guys are starting to ramp in your timing? On my car I have the following setup

4000-5000rpm 28 degrees
5000-6000rpm 29 degrees
6000-7000rpm 30 degrees

My question is what are you guys doing from 2500-4000rpm in terms of WOT timing advance?

I am at ~10.8:1 compression with a 230/230 112LSA XE-R cam.

Cheers,
Chris

I think that larger ci cars traditionally cant take the advance that HCI cars can. I believe that Jayson's (MTI) tune for me peaks at 23 degrees for my 388.

As soon as I pick up LS1Edit for this car, I'll go mess with it and see what I can do.

My 422ci was at 25/26 degrees of timing at peak, I had around 12:1 compression.

27 degree for that interval.

How are you guys ramping in your timing below 4000rpm?

ie what increments from:
2000-3000rpm
3000-4000rpm

I can really notice the timing ramp up in my car.

It is like a small shot when it hits 4000rpm. I am not sure what my timing is for the above increments.

I am thinking it must be pretty soft to notice such a big power hit at 4K rpm

BTW at the last dyno my car made over 400RWTQ from 3600rpm and up and over 400RWHP from 5200rpm and up. (It is making even more now with the stock 10 bolt and DS back in the car vs the 12 bolt and heavy DS)

I am trying to fatten up the curve even more adn wanted to play with 2000-4000rpm timing increments without causing any ping.

Cheers and thanks,
Chris

The more efficient and more cyl head pressure the less timing the vehicle will need. So by that the larger CID vehicles will need less timing in certain areas because they make more torque in places where a 346 doesnt make as much. The 98 vs the 02 fbodies have drastically different timing curves the 02's have much less timing but make a significant amount more power off the showroom floor. Take for example the Z06 which only has 22-23 deg WOT timing and look at the power it is making. With a 12:1 Z06 and a medium size cam I did not have to retard any timing past 5600 but from 3600-5600 I had to retard a few degrees because of much greater efficiency and inc torque throughout that range.

I am running 28 degrees of timing from 4k - 7k in my 347cid H & C motor. With 12.2:1 you would think it would knock but no knock on 93 octane...... I am going to try adding some more timing for some more HP!

That seems like a lot of timing! What are you dynoing? What are your mods?

thanks,

Ditto! How are you running this much timing?
