Default Predator Tuning

Hey guys, I installed the predator "tune" on my car when it was bone stock and got some detonation. I managed to correct the problem by removing a little timing. Total timing was 34.6 @ WOT with no detonation.

Yesterday I did all the free mods ie: TB bypass, descreened maf, and egr cutdown. I also installed an SLP CAI, lid, and fernco bellows. Since these mods my detonation has returned. I pulled more timing out,26.4 total @ WOT to no avail. I also richened up the power enrichment because I know there is a good bit more air comin in now. I tune this thing in small increments. The more I richen it the higher the detonation moves in the rpm range. At first it was @ 3800rpm. Now it doesnt do it untill about 5200rpm in 2nd gear (no detonation in 1st gear).I am at about 1.5%+ on the PE so far. Should I keep going or call predator for a custom tune? I plan on doing more to the car soon ie headers and true duals and I know I will need a tune then.

The car is a 2000 m6,cai,lid,freebies,descreened maf

Descreening the MAF will fool the PCM into increasing the timing and leaning out the AFM.

So can I compensate for this by richening it up some more or will I need some help from Diablo?

The way I would do it would be to go in LS1edit and increase the MAF table for more airflow across the board. I don't know what you can do with the Predator or Diablo, maybe someone else will respond on that.

Thanks Cal, Unfortunately I do not have edit. I will probably get it when I go with some more seious stuff like cam and heads. I apreciate your input

You keep adjustingn until the KR is gone, play with the timing and fuel. Once its all good, see about getting a wideband reading (or get in on the GP in the sticky here) or an Atap log, send the reading/log in with the settings on your predator and what else if any things you would like adjusted to the vendor who can then make it so the tune will adjust all your parameters and you can reset them to the middle scale and have full adjustabilty all over again. Contact Diablosport for a Custom Tune. When you did all those Mods you increased airflow, and when you Descreened the MAF (which also straightens the air thru the Sensor) you added even more airflow AND degraded (slightly) it's ability to sense the amount of air correctly. Plug in the Predator and record your LTFT's during normal cruise and WOT conditions. I'll bet they're all in (or over) the +4.xx% to +5.xx% ranges. All that extra fuel can cause your KR problems.

I just installed a Custom Tune from Diablosport that cured my +LTRM & KR problems. I'm truely surprised how much smoother and more responsive the car is now. And it was all free.

OK guys thanks for your help! I have solved the problem for now. I installed plugs 2 heat ranges colder and played with the timing and fuel a little more. No more detonation or KR./ LTFT's are still a little above 0%, but I can deal with that for now as long as the ping is gone. LTFT is @2.25%. I will get a custom tune from diablo after I install my headers and exhaust. Thanx again to Ncal and Cat3 for your input in PM's!
