Hey fellas, my dad has a 1978 Pontiac TA that he may be interested in selling. The car has been 99% restored. It has the 6.6L(400) with a Turbo 400 behind it. The engine was completely rebuilt (stock) about 3 or 4 years ago with very little miles put on it. It was originally gold with the black decals. Had it painted Black by a very reputable painter around here. You wont find a spot inside or out on the vehicle where you can tell it wasn't black off the assembly line. There isn't a spot of rust on the vehicle, garage kept since rebuilt. Interior was re-upholstered. This car was completely stripped, sanded and coated. Interior, engine comp, undercarriage and trunk. It is definitely a must see.

Is there anyone on here that would be interested in this vehicle. If so, i can post pics or email if desired. You can PM me or email me at Patsfan922@gmail.com. Selling price is up in the air right now.

Any specific questions, let me know. All can and will be answered. (about the vehicle that is)

Was it always an Auto car? If so wouldn't it be a 6.6L 403 Olds motor not a Poncho 400? And how much are you asking? 77's&78's are some real nice looking cars btw

`79 Auto's are all 403's, In `78 you could still get the 400 with an automatic in which case it was a th350 and not the th400 which was replaced in `75.

Also if it was Originally Gold was it a Gold SE ?
Gold SE's are quite rare.

You are absolutely right. This was a few years ago when he acquired the car.

As for the motor/trans... It is a 400 cu. in block with a TH350 behind it. We had a tranny layin around the garage that went in with the TH350 to be rebuilt. I must have been confusing the two together. Good to have experts around.

He is looking for 12-15K, negotiable! Its a texas titled car. Car was restored to resemble factory. Has a few upgrades; cd player, certain switches & lights.... Wheels were re-done gold along with the interior.

I don't believe it was a Special Edition. My dad bought the car from a guy i work with for dirt cheap. He had purchased the car new when he was in or just got out of high school.

The Vin will not tell you if it's an SE
You would need to look at the cowl data plate and I believe the code is Y88.

Other tell tale signs will be gold dash panel gold spoked steering wheel
gold grille accents.

yeah, thats it. im fairly sure most all Y88 cars were also WS6, but dont hold me to it. just seems like an obvious option, if youre paying extra for the SE, might as well get the good suspension too. the tag is up near the drivers windshield wiper. if it was a real gold edition, i would really hope they wouldnt paint it black instead.

That wouldn't have been the best decision my dad has ever made. Hopefully it wasn't an original Gold SE. It did have the gold dash i believe. I will have to check the code

A friend of mine had a Y88 car about 10 yrs ago and it was the base 400 (180 HP) Auto (without the slapstick) w/2.56 gears. It had T-tops A/C PW PL and the velour interior but No WS6 option. So I think you could get them anyway you wanted.

I went over and checked out the car, couldn't find the Y88 code.

My dad says he thinks it was a SE car, but didn't like gold so that is why he went with black. Must have been a Smokey and the Bandit thing. I dont know.

But anyways... is there any specific sites you guys know of where this car can get some attention. We want it to go to someone who is gonna take care of it. We've spent a lot of time bringing this car to life. Would hate to have someone buy it and tear it up.
