Default Does the big rear fin work?

There is some debate locally about does the raised rear fin really work at high speeds or is it just for show...my WS6 feels secure on the road over 120 mph and my buddies cobra does not, so is it the design of the car or does the fin really work...anybody know for sure?

I like this one. I see this as the original ricer over the top wing. It was functional though, only at speed over 90mph, so I;ve heard.

The stability might also come from the suspension mods you have and driveshaft vibrations you might have less off than your friend.

The stock wing on the Trans Am /WS6 has no real aero advantage.

It adds about 200 hp that dosen't include sticker hp that's why we are much faster than camaro's.........

Supposedly.... it adds 9% additional downforce on the rear.... rather you call that "no advantage" is up to you.

Where did that number come from and at what speed? Most factory cars actually create lift at high speed not down force.. The T/A spoiler was created for looks not performance...

Well the up level spoiler does add a substantial amount of weight over the rear. As far as Aero is concerned It isn't going to compare to the 100 lbs of downforce @ 100mph from the Old 2nd Gen Trans Am spoiler.

How substantial? Do you know how much the big spoiler weighs? I'm just curious, it would be interesting to know how much it weighs.

Not sure how true this is but I heard it weighs 42 lbs by itself.

^Yeah, I just did the swap on my bird for a high-rise hatch. The lowrise I could've probably removed/carried away on my own, not problem. The high-rise though... sucker was heavy!

Yeah it works....at speed it helps to slow the car down by creating wind drag.

Or you could get one of the ultra-low cost kits...
