RPO code question
I have recently aquired a 97 trans am it has no front end sheetmetal because the previous owner had a 02 front end on it. I am in the proccess of restoreing the car and i have grown curious as to what exactly it is, it has a ws6 badge on the back but it has a ws9 rpo code on the drivers door. Any info is appreciated. Also does anyone know where i can have a place check my vin to see what it is?

WS9 is the code for the V8 'conversion' of a firebird. they all start out as firebirds. add a V8 (regardless of formula or trans am), and it gets the WS9 RPO code, and becomes either a formula or TA, depending on other options of course.
IF the RPO sticker is still original, there should be a WS6 code, meaning it was originally a WS6.

cool deal thanks alot for the info cause i want to get a car that i can just rack up the miles on and take to the track when ever i want and this 1 only has 48k miles on it and sounds to be to much of a collectable for me ive been storing it 10 out of the 12 months because i heard that quess i might have to sell it and get a diff toy
According to this link: https://ls1tech.com/forums/racers-lo...n-numbers.html your car is 1 of 9 and is the rarest on the list. Im not sure if all nine of those had the same color top so it may break down further.
after checking compnine... mine is 1 of 1 with my particular option string.
i wish my search would have been as quick... but i did confirm after a solid week of searching thru the GMVIS system (what a PITA) and i was able to sort it a little better.
