Sorry to thread jack but IF(IF...) one came without AC would it still have the heat option? If so would it have a special heater core box? I know most people want to retain a heat option of some sort unless it is a trailer to the track car.

RPO code C41 is AC delete, it was only available on 93-95 1LE Camaros, they are pretty rare.

So there is a box for just the heater core is the question.

This peaked my interest.

The F-body parts catalog shows parts for option C41 (HVAC SYSTEM, HEATER OUTSIDE AIR, WITH FAN) for cars up to 1996 including the LT1 engine. Specific components like pulleys that bolted where the A/C compressor goes. Also, single radiator fans.

I don't see a C41 specific heater core box. I think it was all the same but they just left out the evaporator core and lines.

Firebirds with C41 option:

1993: 36
1994: 213
1995: 251
1996: 84

Convertible Firebirds with C41 option:

1996: 1,885

Camaros with C41 option:

1993: 159
1994: 1,334
1995: 2,052
1996: 538
1997: 1

Convertible Camaros with C41 option:

1994: 9
1995: 37
1996: 2

Years not listed, 0 cars with C41 option. All 1998 and up F-body cars had A/C.

OK, who's got that lone 1997 Camaro?

You are correct that all '93-'95 1LE Camaros had C41 heater (w/o A/C), but the C41 RPO was put on more than just 1LEs. In fact, in '96, all 1LEs had C60 A/C (no C41), but there were 538 other Camaros built w/ C41. By '97 only 1 V6 Camaro was built w/ C41 (possibly a mule or carry-over car?), and ALL '98-'02 Camaros had C60 A/C.

The same probably applies to Firebirds.

EDIT: DOH! Paul Bell beat me to it.

yes..if im not mistaken, the heater core is totally separate from the A/C...because i dont think u would need your A/C compressor to run heat

thanks guys.

my next question was going to be, if there were cars that came without a/c, did they come with a different heater box. but it seems that question has already been answered.

kinda odd tho, almost every other GM car/truck that had the option to have a/c or not, had a completely different heater box (s-10's, g-body's, etc...)

guess it's back to cutting and fab'ing a heat-only HV!AC system

The boxes are different if you have ever seen or had them apart. You have to cut the ac out

The 1LE Formula's & Camaro's didn't have AC, power locks, power windows or T-tops. All 1LE birds from 98-00 were Formula WS6's as far as I know of.

Learn something new everyday. The only info I have is that after 96 all cars had A/C to include the 1LE cars. It makes sense that they would keep the C41 as an option though so the people in milder states could save a couple of bucks. Thanks.
