You can pull the bars up and lock them in place to where they will stay up

Default Headlight motor issue

I know these gears go bad my passanger side grinds. I'm going to replace it with a brass one. But when it's cold out, my drivers side headlight will stay up. It won't make any sounds that I can hear from inside the car attempting to go down. It drives me nuts, I can't stand driving with one headlight up in the morning once the sun is up or just being parked. Lol I'm thinking I need to replace the motor? What you guys think?

Maybe the drivers motor freezes or something. Sounds like an odd problem to only have it happen when it's cold unless it's just a sign that the drivers side motor is going up too.

Open the hood and watch the drivers side headlight while opening/closing it, and see if the arm is getting jammed on anything. Also check that you are not missing the arm bumpstops (little yellowish piece that stops the arm) on either headlights.
If the drivers side arm is not getting hung up on something then its likely a connection issue on the headlight motor harness, you can just cut/splice the wires for free if you want.

Default Headlight problems 02 Trans Am

Having a bit of a problem with my passenger side headlight. When it comes up it's jamming up against the top of the hood. I can drop it back down, lift and close the hood and it to come back up right most of the time. From what I can see the hood is fine and hasn't dropped down. What I'm thinking is that the headlight cover itself hasn't gotten just a big out of line with all the years of it slamming shut and opening hard. Why in the hell GM just didn't set it up for these to open and close slowly? The way these slam shut and slam open can't be good for it.

Is there a way to adjust these headlights?

When it does it again, I'll take a picture of it. Even scratched the pain slightly where it jammed on the hood. Ticks me off.

there are 4 screws that can be loosened then that respective corner raised or lowered to adjust the metal lid that hides the headlight when down, outside of that you could try unbolt the entire headlight assembly and try to **** it just a nudge.

Like he said, the metal cover itself has screws you can use to adjust it, also you may want to check the hinging mechanisim and make sure it still has the little rubber boot that stops it when open all the way, if its missing you can cut off a little piece of rubber hose and slide over it. if thats missing it may cause the headlight to open just a little too far and/or be loose and wiggle.

Just got it figured out. The headlight motor gets assembled gear first, then the rod with the threads/fingers. The threaded end sticks out of one side of the motor for driver side, and the other side for passenger side.

I was gonna mention the gear setup on the right should be turned around so the shaft goes thru the the backside, I did mibe like a year ago so I don't remember which goes where but I do remember the driver side for 98-02 is the passenger side on 93-97 and vice versa for the other one.

Pulled my driver side motor today. My driven gear is buggered up. Is this eBay kit the same as the Rodney Dickman kit? If so, I will just order it off eBay and save a couple dollars. Thanks.

I have what I think is a unique problem. My car is a 2000 Firebird. The driver side headlights (both low and high beam) don't illuminate. The headlight motors operate properly, and the lights pop up and down as they should. When I took it apart, I noticed that the plug was missing 2 of the pins. I replaced the plug, reassembled and still no lights on the drivers side. I've checked the fuses, and they're all good.

Is there a relay or something that needs to be replaced? If yes, where is it located? This is driving me nuts. Can someone offer assistance?

Did you took apart this connector located under the headlight unit? That connector is known to "corrode" a lot= poor conductivity.

Yes, I took that apart, and the one side was missing 2 of the "fingers". I replaced the connector, put it together, and still nothing. The motor operates, and the passenger side lights illuminate, but the driver side lights don't illuminate. Neither high or low beam. I've checked the fuses. What else should I look for?

Both hi and low beam share same ground in the big connector. Check if you have ground and check if you have hi and low signal coming from the car side of the connector. This is done with a test light.

I turned on my headlights tonight and they worked for a split second the quit all other exterior lights work normally but I cant figure out why the headlights wont work. after they shut off I noticed that my battery gauge was reading in the read (to high) so im not sure if that's the cause of the problem or just a coincidence. I checked all fuses and they are fine so any ideas?

It will take make into next year to read through 73 pages to look for this answer, so ill ask and hopefully not get flamed.

Do the 1993-1997 trans am's have the same issues with the headlights as the ls1 era birds? Are the gears plastic that get stripped down? When they headlight motors go bad does it cause the same other electrical issues?
