Default 2001 Pontiac Trans Am. No crank, no start

I have a 2001 trans am that won't won't crank. I turn the key and nothing happens. the security light is fine, so it not that. the battery has plenty of charge, so I've ruled that out too. when you turn the key ito doesn't crank over. no drag on the battery when you bump the key to the crank position either. have any of you guys ran into this?

I'm sure you checked this but in case you didn't. Connections on the battery?? Sometimes enough comes through for the minor stuff but enough not to start the car.

I'm not sure if this will help but any info is good info. My camaro just stopped starting. I was jumping through my *** looking for things. It turned out the starter harness was resting on the headers and melted/grounded stopping it from starting. I had all my light and power tho.

Sounds like the starter but could be a number of other small things like mentioned above.

I guess that starter is a possibility. I hear some engage under the hood when I turn the key (deeper than a click, more like a thud). I've never had a starter go out like that before. they always give some warning before they go out.

They always seem to work when you need someone to look at them lol. My LT1 did this exact thing before and I replaced the starter, would work one day then not work another. When I would try and start it I heard a clunking sound like the starter was hitting the flywheel but not spinning it, hasn't failed to start since replacement. I would check the wiring on the starter and on up, since it's by hot exhaust piping. Also maybe even the ignition switch, but I doubt its the switch since you heard the clunking sound.

I had a similar problem years ago. It would occur at random and it took me forever to figure it out. Inside the red terminal under the plastic shell the wires had turned green and corroded the lead for the starter it self was the worst. I figured it out when I had a buddy try and crank it while I wiggled the terminal.
