Flowmaster on v6 I'm looking into getting the Flowmaster 80 Series muffler for my bird. ive onyl got a v6 3.1L for now, but at least its not the 2.8 . anyways. crappy v6-ness aside, ive heard this muffler doesnt go to rice except maybe if i redline, which i try not to alot...and that it makes it sound as close to a v8 as im gonna get until i can scrounge up enough money to buy a new engine.
anyone heard or now anything about these mufflers or what would sound good on my car without going to rice? sound clips would be helpful

My friend has a "V-force" muffler on his 3.8 and it definitely sounds ricey as soon as he starts to go past half throttle. It does sound pretty good when it starts up though.
I'm pretty sure that the flowmaster isn't going to make your car sound any more like a V8, just a loud six(rice style).
What gives the V8 sound is the pattern of the camshaft, not really the muffler, I mean it doesn't matter what muffler you put on a V8 it still sounds like a V8, so this works vice versa.
You might be able to get a deeper sounding six though, anyways good luck but I think your best bet would be to start saving that money for a V8.

At first I liked the sound of the muffler, but after awhile it got annoying, esp after 3k, because it sounded like crap after then, and I redlined it all the time. I had a 2.8.
I'm glad I've moved on to the sound of an LS1

I had a flowmaster 80 on my 3.8 camaro, it sounded terrible. I thought it sounded great at first, but I was very ignorant back then. It sounds like a honda after 2k rpms.
And for some stupid reason, I went and bought the same muffler for my TA. Not ricey, but still doesn't sound good.

I had the WS6 exhaust on my Camaro and loved it. Just find a muffler shop and see if they have had anyone swap out the stock muffler and see if they will put it on your car for cheap...I got mine for $80 installed because otherwise he was just going to throw away the old muffler off the TA.

yes it was on a v6, was a 1998 3800 Series II, A4 Camaro. I have since traded the car, but it had a real nice idle tone, and sounded good at low rpm. it started to rasp a little at WOT but it wasn't bad. I really liked it. I also had the Whisper lid and the FTRA on the car and with the freer flowing catback I felt more power on the good old seat of the pants dyno...obviously not scientific.
