Switch in ashtray?
I have a 2000 model T/A, and after all this time, I just noticed a switch in the ashtray. Does anyone else have this? If so, what is it for? I looked in the owners manual and there is no mention of it.

Re: Switch in ashtray?
I have a fan switch in my ashtray. What does the wires going to it look like? If it kinda looks like a gray "telephone" cord it is prolly a fan switch. Have you tried to turn it on yet?

Seriously though, it could be a kill switch for the ignition. A friend of mine puts one of those on every car he owns. So if someone tries to steal it, they'll have a bugger of a time figuring out how to start the car. He always hides his switch in wierd locations.

Re: Switch in ashtray?
Thanks for the replies, when I made this post, NOS was the only possibility I thought of. I found it while taking everything apart to install my Pro 5.0, I haven't tried the switch out with the car running yet, but I did turn the key on and try it and nothing happened. The wire is two or three times larger than a phone wire, looks like 3 or 4 wire in a black sleeve. If I get a chance after work I'll take some pics and post them.
Oh, I almost forgot. Someone here could know this car. It came out of Atlanta. I bought it in September and it is a black ram air.
Thanks

Re: Switch in ashtray?
I had a 1/2" hole in the bottom of my ashtray in my 98 when i bought it. Took me a while to figure out what that, and the big hole in the t-top area was for. Glad I sold that car.

Why don't you just follow the wiring to see where it leads? That should give you your answer. My guess is nitrous. That's where my switches are.

Re: Switch in ashtray?
Just got around to checking out that toggle, it runs to fuse box(ignition), and is grounded. Then leads up the windshield pillar and comes out at the sunvisor mount, where the previous owner cut the wire. Probably either gauges or a radar detector, although I've never seen anyone wire their radar to a hidden switch!
