Default 4:10 Gears

Alright So I have a 02 Firehawk and was wanting to put 4:10 gears on it I was just curious on how they affect daily driving, top speed, cruising speed on the highway, gas mileage and such. Thanks

You'll definitely notice an increase in RPM and a decrease in gas mileage.

Get the gears- NOW! You wont regret them. I'd never go back to 3.42.

I have them in my car and I get between 16-18 in town. On the highway I cruise all day long at 65 at 1500-1800 RPMs.

Try to drive cars with both if you can. It's a matter of personal preferance. Most people seem to like 4.10's best. I have 3.73's and like them better myself. If you like lots of shifting and tire smoke, then 4.10's will give you a good rush and huge difference from stock. You'll feel like you added 40 lbs. of torque. With 3.73's I lost the lag down low and my car feels much more powerful, but I don't have to row through the gears quite as much. I didn't notice any gas mileage loss and still have plenty of highway gear. If seen a couple hundred rpm difference at highway speeds.

I just put a new 10 bolt on my car this past weekend with 4.11's. I love them so far, pulls even harder now I've driven between Greensboro, NC and Pulaski, VA 3 times now and my gas mileage hasnt' been effected very much at all. Wish I hadn't waited 5 months before I finally put the new rear in

I had 4.10's in my 10 bolt and have them in my 12 bolt.

Love the gear, and I couldn't imagine driving around town with 3.42's for as long as I did.

Fun gear to have, I love the fact I can pull all the way through 4th on the track.

Going along with what RedneckZ said, how many of you with 4.10s are actually SLOWER on the street because of the loss in traction?

I like the fact that with 4.10's you can cruise in 6th gear and if you want to pass someone you just give it some gas and go. With stock 3.42's I'd have to downshift to 5th for any kind of pull. this was on my old 96 Trans Am.

What is the cost of having a ring and pinion installed or is everyone putting them in theirselves?

Yes, the going rate to swap gears is around $150 for the labor.

Ive got 4.10s in my a4. And love'em. Gas mileage went down 1mpg. Well worth the extra power where you need it! Plus my slp lid got me 2mpg back! 4.10s dont make you spin more. They help you hook up. The gear is spinning faster cause its smaller. If you do spin hard it wont be for long. If you have a lot of power and the factory gear it will spin longer but with 4.10s itll spin harder but not longer. Your times will increase dramatically! The gear will pull you out of it and go. Its kinda like the gear is telling the tires "ok we dont have time for this tire smoking monkey business, lets go!" You'll see. So my advice get the 4.10s,drag radials, and a bigger stall. The stall will complement the gear tremendously!GL man
