Unless your way upside down on how much you owe on the V-6 you will not come out ahead doing the swap. Not to mention the headache. Take my word for it.

If you add up the sale value of your paid V-6, plus the 6k EASY that the swap and labor will cost, not to mention your time, you can buy a 2002 WS6 for basically the same. This issue has been done over and over in the past with people that have done this sort of thing. NONE have resulted in advising the swap route.
If you look in the classified section on this site, you'll see a ton of mint condition WS6 cars for 15,16,17k. You can find totally built cars for under 21k. With what you can get for your car and finance a small loan from your bank you'll have some hot wheels for $200 a month @ 36 or 48 depending.

He's just giving you an example.

If you really like your body stlye then get a formula.
You have to understand that not only the engine is different in the Trans Am (and formula) but the suspension, brakes, and transmission have all be changed for all around better performance. And then on the Firehawk, and WS6 models, the suspension has been changed to an even more sporty tune for better handling and balance.

If something like this:
http://www.dxsoftware.com/magnus/v8swap.htm
doesn't look overwhelming, by all means do it. I doubt most shops will do it...if they will it'll be for a hefty charge.

You're better off selling your car and buying a Formula as others mentioned.

Buy a totalled out Formula or Trans Am, drop the engine/tranny/wiring harness/computer out together on the cradle/front suspension and all, roll it out and under your Firebird, swap fuel lines, swap gas tank(and fuel pump), and stomp on gas and go. I bought a wiped out 99 T/A with only 40K on the drivetrain for only 2600, and did the install myself. May as well swap in the other gauge cluster too!
