Question Have An Exhaust Question

I have a 2002 TA convertable.
It has a few mods already.
One of the mods is a Magnaflow muffler.
I want a little bit more sound and of course a little more HP wont hurt either.
I am NOT messing with the cats.
My question>In order to install electrical cutouts do I have to have headers?
I read somewhere that the cutouts are usually installed behind the headers.

Well if the car is stock, then you dont have headers, but some install right after the header collector(this is what I did) and some install after the y-pipe.

I have my cutouts right after both headers 3in collector to 3in cutout, then going into hiflo cats then to the y then to my flowmaster catback.

It just depends. I like having them right after the headers, its really loud and sounds really mean. plus the exhaust gases have to travel less and the bigger diameter on my system means less restriction

You don't HAVE to have headers, you can put the cutouts either before or after the cats, prior to the y pipe merge, or you could just put one cut out in the I pipe

Saw the pics of your car Rampage> Like it.
Anyway I have decided not to get cutouts.
Im going for an inexpensive full out catback.
Im not telling any of you what brand but its not going to be Flowmaster.

I have the summit catalog next to me at my desk and I don't see one for an LS1 based model in here. But all I can tell you is that if you find something at a great price,.go for it. I'd check e-bay first if i were you though. All of us on here have pretty much labeled SLPs LoudMouth, CORSA, BORLA and GMMG as the 4 top exhaust systems that have an amazing(LOUD) sound. Price is always an issue,...trust me,.I know. If my bank account was half the size of those others on here,..my trans am would be a frig'n rocket by now! If you get the Summit cat back and you don't like the sound,.you can always return it and save up for a bit until you have more funds free'd up. Summit has an awsome return polocy.

Have you tried some of the free mods yet?

Im going on the Summit websight in a little bit to check some catbacks out.
Ill let you know what I decide to go with.
************************************************** *******
O.K.
Ive looked at Summit online & you are right Rampage they do not have any catbacks available for an 02 TA.
Ive decided to go with Dynomax.
I know its cheap, but its better than just a muffler, even though Magnaflow is a good brand.
Ill let you know details later.
************************************************** *******
Wait a minute, after looking at all of Rampages mods, I think I might go with SLP.
Ill let you guys know.

I love my LoudMouth and I'll tell you why. Technically,...There's NO muffler back there. Its actually a resonator! If you look at a pic of SLPs LM,.The shiny portion of the pipe,...yea,.its HOLLOW! Absolutly ZERO restrictions. Which means,........LOUD AS ****!!

K,....I think I've pushed SLP products enough for a few days. lol,..Sorry. I'm just happy with my current set up and I would never swap it out for anything else. I'm personally very satisfied with it.

Good luck and let us know what you go with.

My car will wind up with either a borla or a flowmaster, its got a hooker right now, but it's not loud enough even though it sounds good. The slp stuff leaves the car too loud once i have long tubes and no cats.

lol,.but loud is good! REALLY GOOD!

Umm,..If those are your two options,.....aviod the flowmaster. They sound horrible with LS1s. I know,..I had one on mine before the LoudMouth. They sound great on Stangs though.

Ive made up my mind but wanted some advice.
And Im not just talking out of my ***.
Its either Edelbrock RPM Series catback exhaust OR
Dynomax Super-Turbo Exhaust system.
There both about the same price.
Im also posting this up on the Az. car club websight as well.

Haven't heard them personally but by reputation their not known to be loud but rather throaty exhaust systems much like your magnaflow.

Try a search for exhaust sound clips.

Change in plans.
Ive made up my mind to get a set of Headers!
My Magnaflow exhaust is fine.
I got approved for a Summit credit card.
I will be back to let you know what brand I decide to go with.
They wont be too expensive though.
