Default traction control switch mod

I heard taking out fuse box from underhood for tcs will turn it off.So what I did was, find the hot wire side of fuse from underneath and cut it.(after power is disconnected)Then run 2 wires to a switch (thru grommet near steering column and mount at your choice location)also easier going from inside out with wires. Now its like pulling the fuse from inside but I leave off all the time but when caught in rain.I suggest try running around with fuse pulled for a bit then hook up switch if you like.I have a 2001TA and don't know about other makes and models but if pulling fuse works hooking up switch to cut off power to fuse should work.

Did any of the Firebirds or TAs come with a factory switch to turn the TCS on and off? I drove a rental car Grand Am and it had a button near the shifter to turn on and off the TCS, if the Grand Am had it why not the F-body? I am curious, because when I took of my console, I noticed a harness that went nowhere and on end didnt plug into anything, it ended right near the shifter too, this peaked my curiousity

GM dealer should be able to print off the wiring schematic and hopefully that leads to some answers. I'm sure you know that though Cap'm :\ heh

Yea I think SLP sells the one you speak of Logs.

Why not use a free mod? Your right index finger? It became habit to shut the TCS off right after I take my hand off the key when starting it up. Hand from Ignition to TCS switch = 1 second and free.

SLP sells that thinga-ma-bobber for like $70 that will plug and play and reverse it. Waste of money IMO.

Yes, my 'bird has a switch right underneath the HVAC. It automatically comes on each time the car is started, so if you need it off it's necessary to flip the switch again.

Excuse the dirt, but here's a shot of the switch....

Please dont go and buy the switch and panel if your car did not come from the factory with out traction control. Just because you buy the switch and plug it it wont do anything unless you have the traction control module under the hood and what ever other required parts that are on the tcs cars.

So not all the cars came with TCS? I have noticed mine says LO TRAC whenever I peel out or get the tail out on a turn, I will feel the brakes modulate also, is that just the ABS or is it the TCS

That sucks! I can't believe you guys that have a switch can turn it off. I have a switch but I can't turn it of or my car will get all over the road. I guess I need to get some suspension work done or something so I can get traction.

Isn't the Camaro's ASR switch the same as the Firebirds TCS?

yes it is...

And on all cars the "trac" light will come on if the computer notices the front and rear tires spinning at different speeds. It is measured thru the ABS system.

You wont see the light when the rear wheel speed exceeds (doing burnout, spinning the tires) the front wheels speed, but if the rear wheels are moving slower than the front wheels the light will kick on.

I have the SLP thing that turns it off, and I do like it, it was $$$ too. but got it when car was only 12,00 miles, and now 108,000 so i guess i got my money out of it. haha but I have to say i have NEVER turned TCS on because I ould not handle the side ways, hell sometimes i go driving my car now in the rain just for that purpose. haha if you are not sideways, whats the point??. the only time i have really used TCS, was to get the car out of mud (haha being stupid i know) I have turned it on to play with it but thats it.

but the mud, let me just say the car was stuck. tried everything i know to get out of there and finally stoped for a second thinking, and saw the button thought to myself, well why not. turned it on and let clutch out (spec 3. so there is no really slipping it, let alone in the mud.) gave just a little gas and then tcs kicked in and bogged the engine down way low, seamed like less that 500rpms, but who knows the tacks suck in these cars, and then the car slowly came rite out of the mud. haha funy story. i thought.

I started out with just pulling fuse at first so I wouldn't have to flip switch everytime I started car.Its off all the time until I turn power on.It only cost about $6 for switch and wire instead of $70.It was just an idea
