^^^^ Obviously they are going to be slower stock than your 98. It's a newer, more advanced car with more horsepower. An LS1 will run with an early 90's vipers. Here's a new flash for you, cars in the 80's and early 90's made less horsepower. For their time they were one of the fastest american cars on the road, much like your LS1 is now, but 10 years from now a stock LS1 may be considered slow. I don't know where you come up with this crap and the ignorance of you last statement not only makes you sound like a moron but you have probably pissed the other half of the site off. And trying to compare a TTA to a forth gen (intake, exhaust, and badging) firehawk is rediculous.

If he dislikes 3rd gens so much for being 'slow'...I wonder what he thinks of late 2nd gens? My 1980 Turbo Trans Am was far from fast, but I loved that thing, and regret ever getting rid of it.

i understand that the cars of that era were not high horsepower producers and that is part of my question of why people buy these cars, they don't perorm and they personally aren't all that nice to look at, so if i was in the market for an f-body why would i want to consider the 3rd gen? that is all i wanted to know from this thread and so far i've gotten alot of people showing pics of cherry cars and talking about the TTA and how they used to own one or how they swapped engines in one.

Well, to answer your question, I personally, LOVE the 3rd gen body style, I prefer it to the 4th gens. And I am too old to care much about pure horsepower and speed. Pretty much any TA is fast enough for me (certainly faster than the damn minivan I was driving around the past 8 years). But, that's just me. Having said that, I do love my 4th gen. My wife talked me into getting a 4th gen (she never much liked the 3rd gen body style) and the body style is growing on me more and more.

I hope my earlier post wasn't misinterpreted as a slam on 2nd gens...it was not. I just wondered what The Spot thought of the speed of some of the later 2nd gens, that's all.
I think the 2nd gen body style is the best body style ever...of any car. That's why I miss my 80 so much, it was a gorgeous car.

They looked great but they really turned into POS in the later years. I mean REAL POS.
135hp, on my 1977 Firebird Espirit 301 V8.
They had engines withover ~450 cubic inches with ~255hp. Took them years to make up for that.
A blast to play around with though, except for the uber shi$tty brakes compared to more modern F-Bodies. What else can three decades be good for.

A clean 3rd gen is just as disireable to someone who likes the look of a 3rd gen, as a clean 4th gen is to a 4th gen fan. Anything can be made fast, so horsepower is not really an issue. You can build the TPI motor, or any other V8 offered in the 3rd gens if you want, or if you're the lucky owner of an '89 TTA you can build the Buick 3.8L V6 till you're running high 6s in the 1/4 mile if you want. If none of that appeals, you can swap in a LT1/LS1, etc.
Also keep in mind that power alone is not everyone's priority. Some people would rather buy a car they really like, then make it fast enough to suit them. And for some others, the stock performance of their 3rd gen is all they really desire.
Just becasue you don't like the cars, and can't understand why other's would like them, doesn't mean that people don't.

With that thought in mind why the hell would anyone want to buy a Civic Del Sol???
If you try to give a Del Sol power it is like multiplying 0 by any other number. You still have 0 in the end.

Not that I'm a fan of anything Honda ever built (I dislike asian cars in general), but your logic isn't really fair either.
You could apply that logic to any car ever built then. Why would anyone buy any car other than the absolute top horsepower car they can possibily afford? But as we all know, there are many other factors to consider.....

Wasn't commenting on your post actually.
I was just saying that different people have different interests not all of them being to buy a vehicle that can be made into the fastest thing on the planet.
I currently have a Z06, had a C5, and a modified '99 Z28 yet I stil think the Del Sol was a pretty damn cool/cute little car for its age. Despite it being pukesh%t slow as hell.
Likewise with the oldschool Civic CRX. Whould love to have an uber drag set-up/sleeper so that I could embarrass a few fellow LSX engine owners.

I too can think of quite a few cars that aren't "fast" that I really like. None are Hondas though.
One of my slowest favorites would be the '83/'84 Hurst/Olds, and the '86 442, all with a 170hp 307ci V8. Dirt slow car in stock form, but you can cram just about any V8 of your choice between the fenders and have some fun if you want, or just cruise with the stock motor. Either way I think they are VERY sharp looking cars.

Got another in the crowd!!!
A 2nd Gen rocks in highschool, liability only, and its a hell of a lot cooler than a 1991 standard tranny Ford Ranger.

I have owned a 1985 T/A L69 5 speed-stock, a 1987 T/A LB9 auto-stock, a 1987 GTA LB9 5spd-stock, a 1989 Formula L98 with headers, a 1996 Formula with 3.73s and my 01 1LE Hawk with Lts. By far, my favorite of the bunch was the 85. Was probably the slowest of the bunch. But it was my favorite. Nothing like cruising around an punching it just to hear the secondaries open up. It wasn't going anywhere, but it sure sounded fast and was fun as hell.

My third gen was my first car and I love it to death. I won't ever part with it. From the time I was 15 and had my permit I've owned my 87 camaro, it had the LG4 305 with the 700 R4 tranny. Wasn't fast but was plenty fast enough for me, it had cold A/C, power everything and T-tops, mint condition. I drove the wheels off of that car, met my wife in it, took her on our honeymoon in it. I've had lot's of great memories in that camaro which is why I still own it. Now it has an LS1 but is waiting on a T-56 tranny to be finished up. To me, personally, I love the bodystyle and the interior of the third gen f-bodies. My 87 is much more comfortable to drive than my 98 but in turn my 98 is a shitload faster, well, it won't be once the LS1 and T-56 swap is complete. I've owned a second gen too, a 1979 Z-28 hardtop and I enjoyed it as well. I just love camaro's of all years and body styles.
