My vote gets the WS6 hood. That Warbird hood looks so tacky IMO.

WS6 or Ram Air that are FOR the Early 4ths. The Late 4th just doesn't flow w/o the bumper to match.

i got my grill inserts from hawks 3rd gen performance for $50 shipped for the pair, sure beats GM's price of $95 EACH

http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/in...OD&ProdID=1809

my airbox i got from someone in oklahoma who was selling it on some random Fbody site that i stumbled across while searching for an airbox.. picked it up for $115 shipped to my door w/ the bellow that goes between the MAF and TB and a K&N

the only thing i paid dealer prices for was the blockoff plate for the hole left by the non ws6 airbox being removed... paid $43 for that and some double sided tape... SLP used to sell it for $15 but they stopped making it apparently

I also bought a 12" MAF extension from summit that can be seen in my engine pic. some say you can stretch the other one to fit but for $25 i figured i'd just get it and know it would work

Very nice, completes the car I think

I would've used sheet metal and tin snips instead of shelling out $43 for some plastic >_>

i figured it clipped in a certain way so i wanted it to work... when i got it and saw it used dbl sided tape i felt kind of silly paying that much considering you can get the pattern online and probably get some black plastic cut out for $5

FWIW here's what the piece looks like

http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...IG=210280430-1

slp still shows it on their site.. i tried ordering it from some 3rd party place who went to SLP to get it and they said it was discontinued so i dunno

they have it for $10.25 w/ a minimum $25 order

even w/ paying $43 for that piece i think i got a good deal on everything

hood $307.51 from ebay and i drove ~ 350 mi round trip to get it (but my aunt and uncle live within 60 miles of where the guy was so we made a weekend trip out of it)
airbox $115
MAF extension wire $25
clamps and hose extension for AIR $5
blockoff plate $43
Paint & install including a repaint of my headlight doors and my roof section behind the t-tops $730

so for around $1250 i got the whole thing done and it looks 100% factory..

if this sounds expensive, let me give you a reality check... the hood alone from gm parts direct.com is $1243.32, the lower airbox is $133, the top airbox cover is $186, and the baffle is $97, plus another $60 or so for a K&N... so for ~ $500 i got over $1700 worth of parts... oh and i forgot the housing bolts, 4 x $3.19

for those who are curious, here's a diagram from GMPD that shows the different peices of the airbox.. i reused my MAF and part no 6 although i was given one, its the same as the non ram air adaptor and mine was in better shape

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...layCatalogid=0

i think number 9 is longer for the WS6 airbox than the non ws6 but i just bought some clamps and about 2 feet of 3/4" heater hose... i still have about a foot and a half left.. i wasnt sure how long i needed but @ 2.xx a foot i figured 2 feet would be plenty but i wasnt sure if 1ft would be enough... i think it would have been fine...

you can see both my MAF extension and the AIR extension in this pic

Yeah I'd say go with the WS6 style or Firehawk. The Warbird looks ok on the early 4th gen, but that style hood is way overdone by people when it's not on the actual 98 to 02 WS6.

Well the non-factory WS6/Ram Air hoods are $500-700, but if yours is a true factory pull-off then that's pretty slick. Still $1250~ for all of that is good seeing as you even had a paint job in that. I was thinking that was everything, then I saw the paint job price was included.

And a little LOL, but I thought 1996firebirdformula was you 1995blacktattop due to name length, car color and sig/avatar. Couldn't figure out why you wanted ANOTHER hood.

yeah the $1250 was for the whole thing finish to end including more paint work than the hood actually needed... i think it was only $400 ~ of the $730 to repaint the hood itself, the headlight doors were $45 apiece, and the roof was the rest. LOL @ his name resembling mine, i didnt even notice that

mine was actually a test run hood at the factory that made them for GM. it had a small hole in it which was why it and 25-30 others were rejected.. there was a problem with the mold that left a hole where the fiberglass got too thin.. the shop fixed it, you can faintly see where it was but only if your looking for it... here is how i got the hood from ebay, unpainted. The shop said it fit like a glove and was definately not an aftermarket. the hole i'm referring to is the little black dot on the dip between the outside of the hood and the raised ram air part, on the drivers side almost in the middle (looking from the front to the back)

Yep, I noticed that right away.

However, for a 'defect' I would've thought you'd get the hood cheaper :\ After all they sell 'blemished' clothing and other items are a heavily discounted price. I once got $135 Sketcher boots for $35 and the blemish was only the outlining 'rope' between the rubber and leather having a 1/8" gap!

Anyways, all in all it's a steal, and yes I'm jealous still LOL I still really like the looks with the 30th stripe though!

well considering the knockoff WS6 hoods are $500-$700 and real WS6 hoods are $1250+ new, i dont think $300 for a never installed real factory hood with a slight defect is that bad... i've seen people selling real WS6 hoods with huge cracks in them or parts that needed totally repaired before paint for more than $300

FWIW he had one more hood after mine that i saw on ebay a few weeks later.. the corners had more wear than mine did, and it had the exact same hole... it went for $435... probably because he put it was the "last one"

War Bird Hood looks more aggressive. Since they molded it to fit the LT1 bodys, it looks good. It's when someone put the LS1 hood on an LT1 that it looks dank.
