I was using the RPU decoder and got this:

WS9 - MODEL CONVERSION PONTIAC FIREBIRD FORMULA

My car is a TA... why does it say formula?

W66+WS9 equals Formula.

Y82+WS9 equals Trans Am.

ALL Trans Ams begin life as a Formula.

Well........ when filling out the option sheet for placing an order for a T/A, that would be true, but phrasing it as "began life" leaves some with the incorrect impression that at some point on the assembly line the Formula facias are removed and T/A facias are installed. More accurately, all T/As are Formulas w/ the T/A appearance / option package. Or even more accurately than that, RPO WS9 is the V8 drivetrain, W66 is the Formula facia / option package, and Y82 is the T/A facia / ground effects / option package (the RPO descriptions aren't quite accurate either).

Yes, I know. Far easier to say it the way I did.

2000-1525 (232 WS6s)

All the info we get on the 2000. It was by far the worst year for a breakdown.

However, going off the fact you have a hardtop, cloth, Blue Green Chameleon (79U) and 6 speed, Id say you have a very rare car. 99% of Formulas were ordered because they perspective owners knew what they wanted. Your cars first owner was a weird guy!

The listing I obtained shows:

2000
Firebird 13529
Firebird Convertible 1149
Formula 1302
Formula WS6 233

Trans Am 6639
Trans Am Convertible 783
Trans Am WS6 7166
Trans Am Convertible WS6 1025
Total 31826

That would be a total of 1535 Formulas built in '00. These numbers agree w/ what is posted here:

I guess I hit a wrong number. I mean the 2 is next to the 3.

Easy to do, done it myself. I've gotten into the habit of cut-n-pasting numbers from my files to avoid this. However, even recently as I was cross-checking numbers from one source against another I've found errors / typos, some of which I've probably posted in the past in this thread. When I do find time, I'm slowly building a spreadsheet w/ breakdowns for all the 4th gen years, compiled from various sources, cross-checked for accuracy where possible. Once complete, I hope to post it here for all to see.

Here's one... 1994 Formula Firebird In purple pearl metallic. All my research turned up was 9225 Formulas in 94, so how many were in that color? I know it is a rare color, but can't find the numbers on it.

There were 1808 T/A converts built in 2000, 1025 of those had the WS6 RPO. I don't have any further breakdown on '00s than that (but still searching).

I have a 1998 Trans Am Coupe. Its Bright Green Metallic, a 6 speed, and has tan leather. It has a Monsoon CD as well. The car is not a WS6. It also has the base "twistie wheels" on it. I know there were 98 BGM cars made, but I didn't know if anyone else knew the breakdown any further. Thanks!

No further breakdown than that, but the only color more rare than BGM is purple. 84 Purple T/A coupes built in '98, 12 of these were WS6s.

UPDATE for clarification:

Since the ASC#s for both red and black '98 WS6s are missing from my database, I can't tell you how many were red or black. I could only tell you #s for all the other colors.

But there were only 221 Formula WS6 coupes built in '98. Can't break the numbers down any further. But I can estimate the number of black WS6 Formula coupes, only about 28% of Formulas (of the total 2123 built) were black, extending that ratio to the 221 WS6 Formulas, approximately 62 Black WS6 Formulas were built.

We need a GM / dealership insider that has access to, or can obtain the VIN database that contains every RPO for each VIN built. Imagine the detailed breakdowns we could do w/ that!

Only info I have on '99s (not much):

1999
Firebird 17170
Firebird Convertible 1245
Formula 1427
Formula WS6 175
Trans Am 10343
Trans Am Convertible 1027
Trans Am WS6 3820
Trans Am Convertible WS6 1002
Total 36209
(Production #'s already include the 30th anniversary #'s, 1065 coupe, 535 conv; 1600 total)
You are correct, medium blue was not avail on WS6s.
