Default not a ls1 question but maybe somebody can help.

i have a 1979 trans am with the 403 olds and started doing a little work on the body and motor but went into the army insteed of finishing my project. long story short after 2 trips to the sand box the body got away and i wouldnt know where to start to fix it. so i have a 1979 4x4 truck with a blown 350 and i was wanting to put the 403 in the truck but i didnt know if it would bolt up to the transmission of the truck which is a 350 turo. if anybody has any ideas please let me know. oh if it makes anybody feel better i do have a ls1 so please go easy on me.

With that 403 (actually a smallblock Olds 350 motor offshoot that became available in the late 70's), you are limited to a BOP type trans case (Buick, Olds, Pontiac).
Chevy V8's including your 350, use a different type of Case.
Good News is it's easy to find a BOP Turbo350 around as you have 3 times as many chances to find one.
The Turbo 350 from the Chevy is usally easy to sell, since less of them are around along with lots & lots of Chevy Smallblock lovers.
Give Craigs List a shot, or just go to our classified section here on LS1TECH.
Good Luck

i think motor-wise, itd be better to get another chevy 350 then use the 403. youre talking all of 180hp in stock trim, and not much torque to brag about.

yeah, just price an intake for a 403 its as much as a rebuild kit for a 350...lol not counting all the other parts....and it adds a ton of weight

i know a guy that had an olds motor in a truck, and i think the bell housing pattern is a little different on the pont, buick , and olds until later years....its a 350 trans basic, but the bell is different

But isn't that a good thing, pull the engine and transmission out of the bird, and drop the whole thing into the truck.

Seems like a lot less trouble.

Default 403

its not that easy...you have motor mount issues, they dont make headers for it much to speak of, and you will have to change the distributer for hei...etc for it to work
