Default LS1 TA.. your 2cents, please.

Hey guys, I'm really into these TAs and am looking at one right now. Its a 99 LS1. I'm in college, so this would be my DD; now I have a few questions for you guys.

do any of you drive your TAs between Nov-February?
Also, how reliable are these cars above 100k on the clock?

thanks guys.

Mines been thru 9 winters with no problems but 96RamAirTA is right All seasons are a must.
Also I have 127K miles on mine with Zero Issues only thing I've replaced on the engine is the waterpump. Otherwise it's the usual remove and replace worn out parts deal. Brakes Shocks Window motors etc....

I drive mine everyday, and its clocking around 92k+ miles right now. And shes still running strong. Just make sure that all the maintenance has been done, and also keep up on it yourself. Theres alot of ppl running LS1s with wayyy over 100k miles. Treat her right, and she'll treat you the same. Just remember the T/A faults; slow or dead window motors, door panel cracks, DRL housing cracks, Intenna motor going out, and headlight motors going out aswell.

Dont forget the infamous t-top leaks and bulbs blowing out mines not a DD but Ive had to replace all bulbs in the front except the drivers side DLR. Sub frame connectors should make the car more livable as a DD.

sounds great. I feel a little better about that winter thing.
yeah, i've only driven RWD cars this far and am used to the whole sand bags in the trunk+tires thing, but i know the TA is way more torquey, so I just wanted to make sure i'd be cool.

The car i'm going to go check out tomorrow has 130k on the clock... I'm a bit iffy about the miles.

99, ls1, ram air, auto, black, 130,000, new tranny at 100k, Borla, $5,900 asking price

just from that info, what do you guys think?

take it for a drive, from a slow cruise to WOT. Check all the lights and accesories, check all the fluids, check underneath for any leaks and in the engine bay. And if you have a mechanic nearby bring it over and have him check it out for ya, like a compression test etc.

I just bought my 2000 TA last March, so I haven't lived with it through a winter yet, but so far it's been my daily driver and I have no complaints. It gets nearly as good mileage as my '99 Grand Am V6 "daily driver" so I rarely even drive the Grand Am anymore. I'll probably drive the Grand Am more in the winter because I have it, but I'm also considering selling it and I'm not worried about winter driving.

Ive got a 2000 WS6 Formula and it's a daily driver. It has 172000 miles on it and it runs perfect.
