Not that I want to believe it, cause I thing the car is pretty sharp, and a great buy for the money.

Even if they kill the G8 and disband Pontiac I don't really care. I got what I wanted out of them Purists are the only people that will really care and they tend to look down on newer Pontiacs anyway (which is odd since they'll be whining the most if Pontiac goes away.

That pisses me off!! i am a pontiac purist, not that I am going to go out and get a G8, but it gets rid of the whole idea of the T/A or a GTO coming out in the future. GM needs to grow some ***** and stick with a name brand. Look at the history of name changes throughout GM. They do not keep a line long enough for people to become name brand loyal. Once a line does not do well they simply slap another name on it. Look at the civic or accord or camery ect ect ect. People buy that car 1. because they are relaible and 2 because its a name that has been around for years and years. If GM wants to do well they need to stick with a name longer than 3-4 years for it to get into the peoples minds. There marketing phylosophy is skewed, oh I have an Idea lets change the name, same car new platform and new name. Look at the mustang name, sadley to say its been around for ever and people recognise that name with a sports car. While GM dumped the camaro and firebird for the gto. How much more of a hit would have the camaro and firebird would have been with a new platform in 05 with the LS2? Now everyone went to mustang with its pathetic 300hp but good looking car. They keep missing the market. This is a last chance type of thing for GM.
The definition of insanity is to keep trying the same thing and expect differant results.

It would be a sad day to see Pontiac go as I have loved all pontiacs way back to the early days.
But lets be honest Pontiac died a long time ago, GM in all honesty merged these brands together back in what the late 70's early 80's?
If the Pontiac name brand goes I will be sad, but not surprised.

This seems about right to me. GM probably planned to have the last year of the G8 before a restyle be 5 years from now. Given the nature of the car industry and the large lead times it requires it is entirely possible that they begin development of redesign 5 years ahead of the extimated release year. I remember reading an article saying the C5 began development in like 1991 and first year of the C5 was 1997. I would take this seriously, there is still time for it to change but I wouldn't laugh this 5 year estimate off.

GTO only lasted 3 years. G8 has been out over a year already, and they claim it may end in another 5 years. That is a pretty long life for a vehicle nowadays, 6 years.
Even our LS1 f-bodies only lasted 5 model years.

just make sure we put our money where our mouths are, just make sure you support GM, whether it's car, SUV, truck, whatever, by one from GM.. I hate to hear all this talk about them going under and what not, i've bought 5 new GM's in the last 4 years, I swear part of me does this and takes the hit thinking about GM "needing" to sell cars! I just heard of a dealer near me that needs to sell 30 cars in 3 weeks to keep from going under?? sucks man.. really sucks.. (and I just bought a new Sierra last month someone else needs to step up lol)

Except for the fact that they can't call it a Trans Am. And despite the fact that gas prices are going down it's not like that's really going to change the direction that car manufacturers are going the prices will eventually go back up unfortunately.
