Default No traction

i have an 09 g8 gxp. i was just wondering what some of you guys use to get traction. i haven't found drag radials for the 19" wheels it has and i don't know what backspacing or size i should go with on a smaller wheel to put drag radials on since the brakes are so big. any info would help.

I picked up a pair of 18 x 9.5" Ruff Racing wheels and am using Mickey Thompson 265/40/18 Drag Radials.

What have you done to the car so far modwise?

i'm pretty sure that no one makes a 19" drag or street radial right? Look into some pedders stuff.

35mm backspacing on the GTs, some people have successfully put on some with 40mmn but the gxp might be different, but I doubt it is. Biggest DR are 18s as mentioned before. Pedders has good stuff, and BMR is hiiting the G8 suspension scene pretty hard as well.

If you plan on hitting the track, and want to launch somewhat hard, Pedders Differential bush's and rear crossmember bush's are a must. I have them on my car, and it makes a word of difference. I stock them as well, so give me a call if you are looking to hook up.

the car has not mods at all. i've had it for just over a week now. i don't really plan on modding the car other than maybe a mild sounding catback and a cold air. i leave the racing for my trans am, i just want to have a little fun with the g8

If that is the case, you really should pass on the drag radials. Once you reach the point where the stock tires are not hooking up for you, you are going to run into wheel hop. Something that will definately be an issue with drag radials.

Nitto makes a 20" DR. Not sure 20's are the best bet for traction, but they're out there non the less.

These were pretty much in response to those with C6 Vette's who wanted to run OEM wheels with DR's.

Phoenix, how bad is traction really? Can you give examples? I'm waiting for my GXP.

Wow I stand corrected, didn't know they had 20" DRs.

I see guys in the g8 gt with auto hook up pretty good at the track. But in my manual trans gxp i feather out the clutch and once i get on it full throttle it'll break the tires lose. I ran a 14.1 with a 2.5 60'. Traction was pretty bad. IT could have to do with me just needing to learn the car a little better.

What was your MPH on that run How was the track prepped? I knew these cars would have traction issues. I'm still surprised they put a 245 tire on the rear. Oh well, I'll just have to get better tires and/or wider rims. I'm still excited about getting the GXP!!!!

20" drag radials are a waste of time.

That's kind of goofy to have a 245 tire w/ GXP's. I get slight spin off the line in my GT so I can imagine what it's like for you w/ 50+ more hp! But I guess it saves money on the cost of building the car to put those tires on.

F-body 17x9s (50 offset) fit on G8s with MT ET Streets (26X11.50-17).

Corvette 18x9.5s (56? offset) will fit with MT ET Street Radials (265/40/18).

Wow, looks like a stock GXP M6 will get spanked by a stock auto GT in the 1/4? Interesting. I plan on spending a bit of dough to make my GT around 365whp through the slushbox soon. Glad I didn't waste my time. Not trying to sound like an ***, but I saw this coming.

Dude. Seriously delete your post, this is not the impression you want to make with post 1. The GXP will spank the GT. Dyno numbers are coming in like 60RWHP higher than the GT and the gearing alone is enough to kill the GT. This guy can't drive for crap(No offense to the OP, but hey.. you suck ), Hence the 60' of 2.5 SECONDS. His MPH was likely up around 108-109, where the GT struggles to run 102.

i'll be the first to admit that the biggest problem with the run was the driver (me) lol. i just need a little more time behind the wheel with this car. i'm used to a th400 with trans brake. doesn't take to much skill on that one. i'm gonna try and get some stock 17s with drag radials like recommended above and see what i can do.
