Default G8 6spd swap???

My mom has a G8 with the V-6 and I love that thing, so comfortable, I want one with the V-8, but I want the 6spd, and not have to track down a GXP

I am curious if anyone has seen anything yet on swapping in the 6spd into a regular GT

Thanks

It can be done. But for the cost of the conversion. U might as well get a gxp with a stick. U will.need a custom driveshaft. Tranny tune. Alot or variables

A guy did it over on the G8 forum, last total was around $8000 for everything needed to make it work.

Yea I saw his, that thing is EPIC

but from the threads I read, he went all out because of his highly modded engine

I think you could do it for much less than that.

Not to mention that I did some research and the Holden VE came with a LSX and the tremec T-56, so the GM parts are there, which would make things more affordable

It is dumb that GM only offered the stick in the GXP.

very dumb, especially considering there was a readily available source for 6 speed G8s

its not like only an AT version existed and they were designing and custom fabbing stuff.

So I guess it ain't as easy as the A4 to M6 swap in F-bodies. Guess I'll be limited to looking for GXPs (if I can get a job first)

A 6-speed manual was formerly being considered as an option on the GT model, but Pontiac dropped the option, stating that it would instead be offered as an option on the G8 GXP.

From Wikipedia.

As mentioned I would just get a GXP. The only reason I didnt get one when I bought my G8 is because they wanted 40k for the GXP and wouldnt negotiate on the price and I got my fully loaded GT out the door for 27k. Now you can get a nice used GXP M6 for around 32k.

It has been stated that the G8 stick uses a special slave cylinder. Also that the driveshaft is different.

If the driveshaft is the same length it could have the slip yoke changed by a shop but if it is a different length perhaps you can have a 4 inch DS fabbed up for cheaper than getting a real GM one from Holden. I don't see why 4 inch one piece steel wouldn't work especially if you kept the stock automatic gear ratio.

What about the slave? What is different about the slave?

I have been under my car and I swear my crossmember had holes marked AT and MT so that shouldn't be an issue.

What else is a concern?

I wonder if you could get a ECM from Australia that was "for" an M6 car.

I guess that is the ace in the hole with this conversion. The G8 is still technically being built and the market is alive an well, however its a world away. As we speak there are VEs with the M6 being cranked out. So there has to be parts/options

I think you could do a transmission segment swap with EFI live. The stock M6 GXP bin is out there.
Should leave the wiring as the biggest obstacle at that point.

Isn't the latest Camaro based off the G8 platform? Could a totalled 2009+ Camaro powertrain be used as a good swap?

He is talking about the bin file for the tuning. You need the bin file to do the segment swap when swapping to a different type transmission whether it be auto to manual or 60e to 80e etc.
