SS as a family car?

SS as a family car?
Those that own one are they really capable as a family car?
I went from 96s Caprice and Roadmaster wagon to a crewcab Sierra and I want a car again.
Will they serve dual duty as the family car and Dad's toy?

I have daily driven my G8 GXP (basically same car minus magnetic ride) and it has served our family well. Plenty of room for the kids car seats, I'm averaging 20.3 MPG with the M6 and 3.70 gear. It even did well last winter here in Illinois, the only day I didn't drive it was when we got about 9" of snow.
I got rid of an 02 SS and an 09 Sierra crew cab for this car and would make that change again if needed!

In the same boat here with my now 17,000 mile 2015 Malibu 3LT.....bit of a sleeper having the 259hp/295tq turbo 2 liter
My daily commute is nearly a hundred miles round trip and I'm getting 36-37 mpgs, but the potential is just there to easily make 50-60 more horse power.
Even the Buicks and Caddys get the 272 horse version of my engine so it would seem that a different tune has at least a dozen or better hiding in there.......however I fight the urge every day....
I'd like to quarter run it just to verify the car and driver claims of 14.7 @ 97
Not crazy but non the less five oh Mustang quick-ish.....

My kids are forward facing but still in 5-point carseats.
Might have to make them take off the shoes for awhile, they are bad about feet on the backs of the front seats.
They are in for a surprise with the way this will take turns. Betting one loves corners and the other is scared for a moment.

I have an 09 G8 GXP and have used it as my daily and family car since I bought it. It does just fine. Not sure about the SS but taking super long road trips is a bit of a challenge since the seats are not the most comfortable but other than that it does well. I have logged 25 mpg before on the highway but most of the time it is 21-22 mpg on road trips. Around town it can be anywhere from 16 to 20 depending on the right foot and if the traffic is stop and go. You won't regret it other than putting a bunch of miles on a super low volume car. GM sold less than 2500 of them last year so...not a lot of them around. There is plenty of back seat room and the trunk is adequate, not 96 Impala SS big but decent.

I picked it up Thursday evening and have put over 150miles on it since. I know that doesn't sound like much but I worked yesterday and today and work is 6.5miles from home. Let's just say I am enjoying it. Wife and kids haven't ridden in it yet.
Only complaints sofar are how soft the power comes in, presume that is mostly torque management and a little bit the rectangle port heads, and the buffeting if you try and put the back windows down, most cars you just stagger window opening and it goes away, in this thing it was severe enough I only tried briefly to stagger windows and then rolled them back up.

I have the 2015 Phantom Black Metallic Automatic and love it. Will run a high 12 in stock form. Very quick family car and sleeper too. And everyone asks what kind of SS is it.

Speaking from the perspective of six years of G8 ownership ... it certainly fits the bill for a family car in terms of interior room. And the trunk space is good for a sedan.
My wife had car seats for grandkids in it with all the associated food and drink spills ... kids scuffing up the front seatbacks with their shoes, smudges everywhere. She scratched up the rear bumper yanking stuff in and out of the trunk. Trying to keep it up was turning into a nightmare - especially considering I have to keep up my own four cars. And let's face it - most people are used to the functionality of SUV's and minivans for lugging around all the crap folks seem to have nowadays.
So I finally decided to buy a used 97k Buick Terraza minivan as a thrasher for her to do all that stuff with. Now she drives the G8 only on nice days meeting girlfriends for lunch, etc.
That's my story on these cars as "family cars."

Don't know how Mongoose got a pic of my car.............
This is MY car she has a 2014 Impala that will be the daily for her and the kids. So the everyday abuse is heaped upon that.
Weekends or evening if we all go somewhere we tend to take my vehicle, but even in my truck the rule was is snacks unless an hours long trip.
Probably 30lbs worth of cheerios and crackers under the back seat of her old Impala
