Default What kind of fuel economy are you guys getting with your G8s?

Considering trading my '07 Maxima in on a G8. I'm only getting 16-17 mpg on average. I figure that if my mileage is going to be that bad, I can at least be driving something with 100 more horses to make my commutes a bit more fun.

I couldn't be happier with it so far

What are some of you getting with only a long highway trip? If you reset the average while on the highway whats it settle down to over a trip?

I actually pulled off 21.5 so far with mine. I did a lot of highway driving and I was pretty easy on everything since I just got it. Once I see 500 miles, I'm giving it hell.

Heavy foot, taking people a ride. First tank 19.0, second, 16.9, lets just say it will be a little less on my next refill. My wife just gave me an egg to put under the foot pedal. I'm probably gonna break it before long. Actually, this tank will probably be around 16-17. Not that good, but, a good time driving it. At 100 miles I was giving it hell, with the salesman in the car, I was giving it hell. I'm an old drag racer, build the motor, put the car on the jack, fire it up get the rear warm, set it back on the ground and run it at 2000 rpm to break in the cam and set the rings and load it in the trailer and put 650 hp on the track the next day and run 9.70's all day long. Opppps, that was a few years back. Just dreamin of the old days.

*Update* Second tank was 18.6mpg third tank was 19.2mpg. My driving habits haven't really changed much either. Once I get my HPTuners license I will work on getting a few more mpg's out of it

When I test drove the one I was looking at, he let me take it out to a bit of a country road for a bit of spirited driving, and on the 45 mile journey we averaged 18.3mpg. Not bad, over all. Waiting for the GXP though. >

Now it's been about a month, what numbers have you guys been getting? Looking at getting one for my wife and curious what real world driving nets and I don't mean the computer estimates either.

I've got 2k miles, an oil change, and about 10 tanks est. On the drive home yesterday from Amarillo (about 60 miles hwy) plus the 25-30 I put on the new tank around town, I got home w/ the avg. mpg @ 27.6! There was some wind pushing me too, but I was happy w/ those #'s!!<-- but that was from the computer which you said you didn't want to see! Real world I figure it's getting on avg. about 22-23, as when it's time to fill up there's about 400 on the trip odo.

I would like to see some mpgs of G8's w/ a tune and CAI!

my G8 hits barely above 17mpg in commuting traffic. i drive 90% conservatively, i'll floor it and wait the 5 seconds for it to downshift occsionally.

((please note, this unmodified G8 GT is much worse mpg than my previous 540hp audi rs6))

Mine seems to have settled around the 19-20mpg mark with a mix of about 65-70% city and 30-35% hwy driving.

so i have almost 1k miles on mine.

everyday i commute on the same 10 mile, flat, straight toll road. i reset the trip computer at the beginning of the toll road. it takes a while to get info and report avg mpg. it's always 18-18.5mpg. then i'll exit, take a few back roads and it reads in 17mpg range.

i drive this toll road with NO stop and go traffic, no brakes applied.

i've seen >20mpg on I95 and there must be tail winds or slight downhill to make that happen.

i think the DoD makes the car very slow to accel on the hwy, and the mileage is bad ... how do you guys get >20mpg???!!

I could hit 30mpg in the M6 '06GTO I had

The wife and I picked up our G8 GT in IOM last week Monday. First tank of gas was 17.5mpg and then topped off after a bit over 1/4 tank and got 18.5mpg. The car's computer is right on with doing the math after a fill up. I figured it would be off like all of GM's past mpg estimators that I had ever seen.

I wouldn't go by the computer unless you've been calculating it manually and know how accurate/inaccurate it is. I know the post above this says his is accurate, but that would be the first one I've seen that is. Also, calculating it per fillup will be more accurate than short distances.

Try calculating it manually for a few tanks and see where you are after that. If it's still the same, get an intake, exhaust, and tune (or get them anyway...).

I don't see why so many people think the computer mpg reading are inaccurate. I have had 5 GM vehicles with the ability to calculate mpg and every single one of them was always within .5mpg of what it made calculating it manually
