Default Need some opinions LS2 GTO/Cobra

Well my T/A looks to be sold and I am wanting to get into something else. I have always loved the Cobras, but am a huge fan of the GTO's as well. I am looking for some of you guys' opinions, even though this is an LSx based forum, I was looking for some lol...unbiased...lol opinions on which one I should look into. I tend to see a lot of H/C GTO's hanging with a lot of the pullied, exhaust, intake, tuned cobras which is impressive to me.

Here's my pros for both so far:

GTO:

Interior
Build quality fit and finish
6.0 LS2

Cobra:

Blower already on the car
Forged internals from the factory
Sound

I like the looks of both of them with the slight advantage probably going to the Cobra.

un biased......

yeah right.

I looked at the S/C'd cobra's
at the time, they were way too expensive (now you can find a low milage 2003/4 for 25K) still $6-10K more than a gto with same miles I believe.

as far as the comparison,
-I like the GTO interior better,
-I like the fact that the GTO isn't such a "boy racer" car (won't draw nearly as much attention (from other drivers / COPS))
- gto is more comfortable / larger interior
- gto gets better milage (26-30+ highway (unmodded 6speed))

as far as the SLOBRA,
- sounds awesome
- blower pully is easy to do
- more parts available

good luck,
they will both make you very happy

Get a cobra. You can have a tire out back, then KB and 600 rwhp. Nuff said

you won't get 26-30 mpg in a M6 GTO on the highway.

I'd go GTO, but for a nice driver, if you want a race car, go 2003 cobra.

If I was to replace the 1998 WS6 in my sig, it would be with a 2003-4 cobra.

IF I was to replace the 2006 GTO, it would be with another GTO. I hope this helps.

I run mid 11s cam only and hope to run even better when i get my gears installed in the next week or so. (06 A4 GTO)

I like the bang for the buck of the cobras and the 03-04 actually looks nice. But I've never been a Ford guy. Only you can know what you like and what you'll end up getting.

What are your goals with the car?? If you plan on modding the hell out of it, go Cobra for sure..cheaper to make go fast...You want more of a DD then go with a GTO..Nicer interior, more room, etc. I love my GTO but damn did I spend way to much on getting her where she is.

I got 31.2mpg on one tank going Durango, CO to Pheonix, AZ. On most of my trips I average 27-28mpg. My average tank is 19-22mpg. Not saying you will always see it, but it is possible in these cars.

With an M6, stock gears and cruising around 60mph I could see good mpg. With an A4, cruising at 80-85mph.....not so much Best I've seen is 21mpg.

Thanks guys, I do favor the cobras a little bit over the GTO. Most of the 03 Cobras that I've found run the same amount as an 06 GTO with less miles. The interior is much much nicer on the GTO but this will not be my DD. It will just be my go fast, fun weekend toy car.
Hate to say it being as I am a die hard LSx guy but I think I'd be happier with a Cobra in my garage...

maybe going 60 you can get good mileage, in mine 25mpg is the best I have done (but normally flat roads, 72-75 mph)

My WS6 will get 25-30 consistantly in the same 70-72 range, due to the better OD ratios of the f-car T56

The only thing is if this Kenne Bell twin screw comes through for the GTO... That would make the GTO one hell of a car and I don't think the Cobra would stand much of a chance at that point.

Ryan, I have an 06 6 speed and didn't believe the mpg numbers people were posting so on a trip though Jacksonville on I-95 from the 295 junction on both ends of town going south to north I turned off the air, cruise and held 65 all the way through town, this included working traffic and slowing for the curves. I reset the DIC when I started and when I stopped it was showing 28.7 mpg, I couldn't believe it but it was there. NOW speeding up to normal 80ish or so dropped it right back down to around mid 23's to 24.

I'll pass on the 4.6 mini me motor in a '78 Fairmont chassis. The stock blower is better for dyno numbers than track times.

since it wont be your DD go with whatll be cheaper to start with. ls2 GTOs are great cars that make good power but so do cobras.

I would say go for an 04 GTO and all the money you saved mod it. It will be as quick as you want it to be.

I love the way the outside of a cobra looks, and they can be made to make sick power. But thats about it, I get to ride in my freinds often, it has a 2.8 KB pushing about 711rwhp. And all I can say how much I hate seating in it. the interior just plain out sucks compared to our cars. Ours are just way more classy looking and our cars are just so much more confiy to drive. And for some reason my friends car just handles badly compared to mine, but I do have a full Pedders suspension on mine. The only major up I see they have on us is that they are cheaper to mod. I am making lots of hp but it took lots of money to do so.

This is coming from a guys that has always wanted a cobra, intell I got to drive one.
