What are the gas mileage differences? (04+)
hi, im really interested in getting a GTO proli 04.... i did alot of searching here and on ls1gto, but got tired of it lol, so i was wondering if you guys could help me out by posting your gas mileage, according to fueleconomy.gov the 04 ls1 gets alot better mileage then the 05+ which is to be expected due to more cubes then the ls1, but i was wondering what you guys are getting since most of you prolli have tunes and etc. oh and this is for M6's only. thanks guys

The '04 has a provision in the ECU called "lean cruise". Although GM chose to disable it due to emissions standards. When certain driving conditions are met, like cruise control on, engine temp, speed and others, the computer leans out the fuel mixture giving better fuel mileage. When you step on the gas, the computer brings the air/fuel ratio back to regular settings.
Your tuner can enable this feature with HP tuners. My fuel mileage increased noticably on the highway. I can routinely see 29-30 MPG on the instant fuel guage, when before it was more like 26-27 MPG.

Bought the car in OH and drove it home to AZ. AVG 25.6 over the whole trip with highs of 28 through OK and TX (IE nice flat states).
I daily drive it and if I stay out of it I can get 18 MPG. It's pretty rare that I romp on the car.

with all my mods i get as much as 20 in town and less as 15. i get 25 to 30 on the hwy on cruise. i have seen many times 28-29 running 80 on the interstate on cruise. i have had the car since it had 3 miles on it. and it really hasn't changed that much from stock to modded in mileage. and i really do not think it matters what year you get. the 05-06 get real close to what a 04 gets. just do not buy a 04 because of better mileage and wish later you should have gotten a 05-06 model. test drive each year and compare. that way you will be happy with your choice.
