My girl just got a 04 gto and she wants it to make some noise so i told her headers. Can you install long tubes from up top or will i have to go from the bottom like the fbodys. I really am digging the underhood room wow it is nice after messing around with the fbodys.

Longtubes or shorties.... Shorties you can go from up top, Longtubes go in from the bottom.... Longtubes will give you more hp but then you have to change the mid pipes with either High flow catted or offroad... Shorties you can just keep the oem mids....

Ive never seen anyone do headers from the top.... You can get the passenger side in from the top with no prob but the drivers side is a different story.... You have the steering rack and lines along with how tight it is.... Thats why its easier to go from the bottom IMO....

We have always done them from the bottom. If you can find someone to let you borrow a lift, life will be wayyyyyy simpler.
Also, there are two "brackets" (one on each side) that have studs going through them with nuts to hold them in place. I have seen these studs put dents in the passenger side header over time. They are so close that with normal driving and engine vibration, eventually the stud rubs against the header.
I have started grinding those studs down for clearance now just to make sure they are out of the way and do not do damage to a header over time.

I wouldnt waste my time on shortys and i told here that. No a pain in the a$$ was putting in my 1 7/8 kooks on my fbody no lift i just set all 4 wheels up on some old wheels i had laying around. Had to lift the motor about 8 inches. So this install should be easy compared to that. Thanks looks like i will try to squeze them in from top.

i did my SLPs from the top but had to raise the motor a little. if i did it again i'd raise the car up higher and put the driver's side in from the bottom. disconnect the PS lines tho. i listened to someone that said you didnt have to do that and after it didn't work and had to unhooked them anyways, the bent lines were then a PITA to reconnect

Yea, I just got those off on the drivers side, passenger side you shouldn't have a problem, plus that bracket covers the brake lines, don't want to boil those down

I always do it on a lift and do passenger side from the top and drivers side from the bottom.
I fully drop the rack from the car and undue the PS lines (which always seem to be a huge pain in the *** to put back on).
