No.....you can get a car like like that to not surge. Owned a few? That means nothing.

Yes, get the cam and springs kit and then also the basic cam change bolt and gasket kit. You'll need a couple gallons of antifreeze and I would change oil afterwards too.

Yes.....larger cams IMO are over .600 and usually mid 230's.

I have an SSHT 228/232 .610 .608 111LSA and I think this is a midsize cam.

he's close . the SS HT is a .612/.600. IMHO it's on the low end of a big cam. without having done either before i installed my cam myself using LS1howto.com and bought HP Tuners and learned to tune it myself. if you're moderately clever, can read and can follow instructions it's a doable job. my car idles at 825 rpm and i can drive in 6th gear at 1,100 rpm without any surging. tweaking the tune is where it's at. a lot of cars i've seen done by "professional" tuners have surging issues and they turn the idle way up to keep them running.

i ran a xer 232/234 with a good tune with no surging issues. once i went to a 238/240 i had some but not bad. it got pissed when it would lock up in o/d at low speed but other than that no problem
