your gonna need a lot more then just a cam to hit 500hp with an ls1. we need a mod list.

Yes, mod list and what type of drivability you're willing to sacrifice to reach your goals. Also, were you looking for 500hp to the wheels? N/A? If so, since the 04' had the LS1, it's going to take an extremely aggressive setup to achieve those numbers.

But it can/has been done.

save yourself the money of having it installed that way you can do cam/heads. And it all depends on what kind of cam you want, for what type of setups like the others have mentioned. Are you using nitrous? supercharger? etc get your cam spec'd for the setup you want. And then the same with a set of heads

no nitrous no supercharger. and not lookin for heads now. i just want a moderate cam thats it. maybe headers later but that shouldnt make a difference.

you have a lot to learn if you think headers dont affect a cammed car. go to the internal engine section and read the stickies. minimum mods i would do a a stock ls1 before a cam are long tubes, cai, ls6 manifold(since you want a cam).

WE NEED A MOD LIST!

Guaranteed: A cam-only setup (and moderate one at that) WILL NOT get you anywhere near 500rwhp from an LS1 Goat.

You would have to have a full bolt-on, heads/ large cam setup to come near that number, and even then it would be iffy. Most H/C/I/E full bolt-on LS2 cars don't make that. BTW, any cam that is going to come near 500hp is pretty much going to demand a large free-flowing exhaust, including headers.

Now, if we are talking 500hp at the flywheel (approx 420rwhp), some stock 243 heads, full bolt-ons, and a 230ish cam should get you there. Of course with that much power on tap, you will need a clutch, some sticky tires, and a driver mod to get it down the track too.

500rwhp with stock heads, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, cubes? And also staying NA. Is that a joke?

I'm sure by CAM ONLY you mean you also have LT headers and full exhaust plus all normal bolt ons.

To achive your goal you will need headers with full exhaust, a CAI, heads and a cam. If you have none of these now you need to start with a CAI and move to a full exhaust with headers, then the cam and finally the heads. If you throw a cam at an otherwise stock engine you will just be wasting your money.

Which others have covered already.

Texas speed has some pretty nice cam/head deals. The torquer V2 cam is pretty popular with gto owners.

Well thats with my old setup i should say but ya obviously with LT's ect... When people say Cam only it means Cam only, Stock Heads and Intake... Those are the 3 N/A generators of power... If someone is looking into a cam im pretty sure they are taking the step to the next mod comming from a Exhaust, Long Tubes and CAI...

When I hear "cam only" that means all the bolt ons and just the cam (intake mani being a bolt on)
