Question How fast is the GTO?

I was wondering how fast a GTO is in comparison to an LS1 f-body. My friend said he heard GTO's are a little faster than LS1 f-bodies. I was wondering if this is true and what are the 1/4 mile and 0-60 times supposed to be on them.

Pontiac is advertising 0-60 in 5.3 for the M6 and 5.4 for the A4 (duplicated by the mags). The only available strip times at this point are magazine runs on pre-production cars so there are no real numbers to go by yet.

Well the GTO has similar horsepower to the F-Car with A LOT more weight, less traction, but much more aggressive gearing (In M6 Flavor). I would say that a M6 F-Body to M6 GTO the GTO will be slightly slower and A4 F-Body to A4 GTO the GTO will be significantly slower.

But as rschumacherfan1 said it's all idle bench racing till we see real times.

Less tire and more gear = less traction. Plus the tire compound is even less sticky than that of a GSC or F1 as this is an all season tire design. IRS may or may not help since this is a Semi-trailing arm design.

It's a known fact that IRS doesn't hook as well as a solid rear axle.

IRS is more for handling than launching. The skinnier tires will definitely be a problem. I suspect we will suffer from wheel hop as well.

There is a traction control button and the TC most definitely can be turned on and off.

I don't think the A4's will be that much slower than an F-body because the rear gear is 3.46 just like the M6.

The IRS has different ratios than a 10 bolt.

IRS provides a much more composed ride, better handling, and adhesion that a solid rear axle can only dream of.

Hence, most contemporary performance cars utilize that design, like the SVT Cobra, CTS-V, BMW M cars, you get the idea.

It's not as ideal for drag racing as the solid axle, but it is ideal for a car whose purpose is to do more than go fast in a straight line.
