Default Clay Bar and Wax: GTO

I posted this in the Multimedia forum, but figured I'd share with the GTO crowd too. I used Clay Magic clay bar and Mother's 3-step sealant and wax with a random orbital.

Thanks. I could tell that this car had never been clayed before, there was so much grit in the clear coat especially on the roof!

Makes it a night and day difference in paint doesn't it.
It pays for itself too in the fact that after rainstorms, the car washes up real nice and the road grime doesn't stick to it half as much.

For those of us who are more unfamiliar with clay bars. What exactly do they do? What sets it apart from just giving your car a really good wash?

clay bars take anything thats "ground in" (so to speak) to your clear coat out.. and its like taking 8000 grit sand paper and wet sanding it a nice glossy finish take a piece of selaphanine (sp?) (piece of plastic wrapping on a pack of cigs) and put ur fingers in it and rub it on ur clean car.. it will feel kinda ruff to the touch.. then take the clay bar and do an area of the car and then redo the rub with the plastic and it will be smoooth

I was like you until I did it. I used to use any kind of soap to wash the car with also. It's easy to clay bar so long as you keep it wet and keep dirt off it.

If you want to know how smooth the paint can be after claying it. Take a sandwich bag. Put your hand inside and run it across a clean piece of glass. That's what your paint will feel like when you get done.

It's got 68k on it. The previous owner took really good care of it (minus never claying it). It's bone stock too!

Looks mint on the exterior. Also nice to see the front rims aren't stained with brake dust.

Haha yeah, its funny you say that. When I bought it, it had some cheap-o brake pads on it. There was dust all over the wheels. Needless to say, changing brake pads was the first thing I did!

Those are "privacy" fogged windows for the bathroom. My house has the same thing. I only like it because it lets in the sunlight to warm up the bathroom.
