Default Any easy tricks or stuff I can do for improvement on weight/HP

I want to do more things with my GTO, just money is the issue as always, what could I do far as taking things off to become lighter or faster. Just easy tricks that people may have done to theirs to make improvement. So far I have taken the a/c compressor out and replaced my oil pan cover to a BMR. What are some easy things I can do?

The Tow-Brace under the spare tire well
the spare tire/tools
move the battery to Trunk

You will also save weight adding headers and full exhaust, getting an OTR intake, CF driveshaft, getting rid of heavy factory wheels, coilovers, etc.

I'm at 3500 right now with full bolt ons with minor weight reduction and full interior

I will have to look into that tow-brace, never knew about that.
Yeah the spare tire/tools is out when I go to the track as well. Do you know where I can get a battery to the trunk kit at or how does that work 409?
Got kooks with straight pipes/corsa. I want 15in wheels on mine, just not enough cash.

3500 is good, I want to be there or lower, thanks!

Battery relocation you just need to get a battery box, cutoff switch, and enough 0/1 or 4 gauge wire.

Your full exhaust already cut alot of weight off.

Pull off the Tow brace, take it to the scales and I bet you are at 3600lbs or under

At the track I've found weight taken off the back half really didn't benefit. Traction is always an issue and things like a battery relocate makes the most sense taking the weight and moving it to the back instead of turning a nice touring car into an empty tin can that can run high 12s.

I agree, 100lbs of weight savings makes a much bigger difference on a 2600lb car then a 3600lb one.

Every 100lbs = about 10th of a second. What I was told. Im just aiming 3500 or less. I am not going to do anything with interior, just take back seats out when down the track.

How come nobody ever mentions the windshield washer resorvoir and the horn. That's a few pounds that's not necessarily needed.

true. I never use the washer, but I get pissed off so I use the horn often.

That's just a rule of thumb.
If you take 100lbs off a 6000lb truck you won't notice.
If you take 100lbs off a 2000lb Lotus Elise you will certainly notice.

I doubt it's worth a tenth on a 3700lb GTO, especially when I hear owners of 2500lb cars quoting the same rule.

That back seat weighs next to nothing. Every 1/10th off the 60' is 2/10ths off the big end. Traction is the thing. Every 10 HP is a 1/10th. With traction, drivetrain and HP people have gotten into low 11s with full weight. A stripped car without the money put into it for power and drivetrain is still going to be slower.

So would you say its pointless to take rear seats out when going 1/4 mile, so I dont have to waste my time lol?

It depends if 45lbs is pointless to you or not. Imo if thats the only thing your taking out on track day then its a bit pointless but if your taking out/off other things to accumulate enough weight loss its certainly not pointless.

I think it's pointless because as I've said before the weight distribution is more important than the weight to a point. The back seats come. . . well out of the back. Let's get this thing in perspective. To equal the "advantage" of weight reduction to HP the addition of headers and a tune could easily equal 300 pounds. A cam 600-700 pounds. Have fun gutting.
