Picking up an ls1 gto a4 in the spring.
Hi guys picking up an a4 ls1 gto in the spring. I was wondering what mods I would need to run around 13.2-13.5 in the 1/4 mile. I'm am looking to spend around 1000-1500 are those times even possible with that budget? Also long tubes are out of the question because the car pass emissions in mass.

Though if you're really that against headers, a stall and nice tune should easily get you there even on the stock tires. Get some cheap drag radials on 16" fbody wheels and you'll be in the 12s.

Long tubes, CAI, tune, tires
I know it's only 1/8th but I was running 8.50s in my ls1 a4 with full exhaust and Pedders drag springs, regular street tires, no tune. That should be around a 13.3 right there.
Edit: reading comprehension fail.
Stall tires and tune as said. lol

Why do you say that? Plenty of people with LT headers and not even cats on can pass Mass inspection just fine. There are no emissions testing, just OBDII testing and sometimes visual.

I would contact don kinder from slowhawk performance for the tune. Hes located in bridgewater and his work is top notch. Let him know what you want to do ( tune, lt's, etc) and he will give you a reasonable price; your going to end up spending a little more than the 1000-1500 range with those mods though.

Weymouth, MA and I don't plan on extensive modding I just wanna get into the low 13's
I didn't know that. What would be a good set of lt's? Also how much usually is it to get them installed? If it is a lot if money I think ill pass and just go with a stall and tune.
A stall will probably cost more to install since taking out the auto tranny is more involved.
But again, you just want low 13s then you don't really need any of those.

honestly, low 13s can be had with a good tune and drag radials.
A fellow on the ls1gto boards installed mine in about 2.5 hours for 250 bux, so not that much. You can buy a set of stainless headers with cats for under 1 grand, with install and basic tune you're going to be right at $1500.

First off; I would check the car out really well and make sure you don't need to spend that $$ elsewhere on repairs or maintenance before taking it to the track and beating the snot out of it. Particularly driveline components.
If all is good...
High stall torque converter ~4Kish. About $750 for a quality piece from Circle D, FTI, Yank, or PI (that's pretty much my order of preference). If you aren't comfortable installing it yourself, it shouldn't cost more than ~$400 to have it done.
Now that you've completely lost any resemblance of traction, get another set of wheels, blemished OEM 17s can be had for little to nothing. If you plan to continue to mod, and can swing it, get 15" lightweight wheels. Mount some M/T or Hoosier drag radials on your new wheels.
IMO; you can't spend $1500 any other way and yield better results plus it's a good step in the right direction if you plan to go quicker later on.
