Default does anyone else have this problem?

i have a 2006 gto and while driving between 35-40 mph there is a humming like a wheel bearing going out. but right at 40mph it goes away. while driving i can swing my car back and forth in those speeds and it gets better and worse. like a wheel bearing when swinging right you load the left side and vice versa but with this noise it is the opposite. just curious if anyone is having this problem or heard of it.

I have a high pitched whistling sound due to the wind going through the mirror gap.

Is the sound coming from the rear of the car? If so, it is not uncommon for the stock diff to develop a whine or hum between 40 and 60. Sometimes switching to Torco RGO 85-140 gear oil with type f modifier will help quiet a noisey diff.

If it's not a wheel bearing, it's the differential (like said above). Jack it up and start checking.

yes, id start by checking for leaks and your differential fluid level.

ok , ill start checking my fluid level. the oil will help the noise, or make it go away?

Either one, depends on the wear pattern that has developed and how sloppy your diff was put together. Typically, even Torco will mask a nosie for a while but it will come back over time. One of the joys of GTO ownership.

Torco w/ friction modifier did absolutely nothing for my noise. Changed @ ~62k miles I think. Not sure if previous owner ever changed it.. But on my 05, it made a huge difference in noise

Could be your center carrier bearing as well.

ok so as soon as i get a chance ill get it up on one of my lifts and start looking around. it sounds further back than my carrier bearing but the noise could be traveling. im almost at 50k now so i think it might be time to change the oil in my diff anyways. there are no leaks, just slight seepage nothing really wet.
