Default cam

I just installed a cam and valve train on my 2005 gto. I followed the advice of this company: http://www.vincihiperformance.com/ I have worked with them for 2 builds and they were there, even on Saturdays, when I had a question or a problem. I went with a 066 cam and today I drove the car for the first time, it was a blast! I recommend that you give them a call.

I don't know.

That's a lot of lift on the intake for the duration.

Best to measure clearances!

im going to be one of those guys i hated on the forums when i first got on them. DO SOME RESEARCH.

a little heads up though, on stock motor, stay near .600" Lift and 230's duration and you should be fine with clearance and all.

Derek

EDIT: you wont be DD'ing it after you install a big cam. ask me how i know...

Why does intake lift matter in terms of clearances? When the intake valve is at full lift, the piston is all the way down in the bore.

What do you mean by big cam? Lift, duration, LSA, lobe design? If you are going to simply stick in some nuclear sized cam in your car and think it will be a blast to drive as a DD, you will be surprised. The fastest cars on the street have a cam that compliments all of the other components; heads, exhaust, intake, injectors, gears, tune, transmission, etc.

This says it all!! Great post SJFGTO!!

You can always call an expert to have one spec'd out, you would be surprised at how little the difference in cost really is also. If you have done any research you already know that there are also other costs involved in the way of supporting mods that should/need to be done, IE: valve springs, lifters, pushrods etc... You are already going to have all of that out anyways so it is a good time to upgrade. A lot of times when you have one spec'd out that vendor will give you a package deal on the other upgrades and you may spend less than piecing it together. If they don't offer a package deal, ask for one and any other discounts like being a member here or of another car site.

I actually switched to a custom ground Cam Motion cam with less duration and a far less aggressive lobe design than the previous popular "big" cam I had been running. My GTO is not only a better car to drive on the street, its mid range pull is significantly stronger than before and I lost nothing noticeable on the top end. Plus my cam is no longer beating the snot out of my valvetrain so I sleep a bit easier at night.

Contact Advance Induction. They have been doing heads and cam combos for LS engines for years. I have had a few of their combos with my Corvette and was very pleased.
