Default Just got my first mods

Ahhh it's a good feeling to be back in an LSx car especially a comfy *** gto! I ordered my first parts today which included BC coilovers, and a tick adj. clutch cylinder.

previous owner has already done front RR bushings, strut mounts, subframe bushings, and the diff insert.

next 2 big mods are gonna be 1 pc driveshaft and short throw shifter.

Enjoy your mods! They sound good except for the tick kit, that unit is subpar from what I've seen. In fact there is a recent review on it on Gastiresoil.

I had one on my z28 and it seemed like a good piece. that was also some time ago though, probably 4+ years ago actually

Smile

someone told me on here changing(upgrading) motor mounts is better than changing these stock shifters.

apparently thats the reason the 2-3 shift is a bitch on GTOs.

i also noticed changing my clutch fluid regularly reduces getting a sticky pedal from aggressive driving.

clutch fluid is nice and clear. I figure it's more of a down the road mod that will pay off when I do upgrade from the stock clutch.
I know the driveshaft isn't the first or even 2nd weakest link but I think by the slop and noise I hear sometimes, a new CF shaft may be in the near future as well.

For power I'm gonna go svede, kooks stepped headers and probably a custom collector back setup with magnaflow X pipe and mufflers along with a good tune. that will have to hold me for a while and not break the axles or stubs in that time until I can get those.

Also in store for tomorrow are some goodies that aren't 'upgrades' per say but definitely doesn't hurt.
royal purple 75-140 synchromax tranny fluid
torco diff oil and type F friction modifier
semi ceramic pads

Torco is great at keeping our diffs quiet, however, from the diffs I've built, the torco units have had the most wear. You might try redline, rp or amsoil. I usually prescribe redline 75w140 or 85w140 Plus fm to taste.

and i wouldn't put RP in my car, especially the transmission. Mobile 1 synthetic ATF is the way to go IMHO. There are a TON of threads on ls1gto.com that cover transmission fluids.

got it all done. No new sounds so I'd have to say so far so good on the royal purple and torco.
next up is doing the front pads. I was so ******* filthy and pissed earlier from TWO hand pumps busting and causing a huge PITA, and involved in a turkey baster to get the diff fluid in and was in no mood to start another job

That sucks... baster ain't fun.

You'll never get a peep out of the diff with the torco, it keeps it quiet. Rp, M1 and redline d4 have done me well in the tranny. The Rp gearbox oil isolated tranny noises best. I feel the redline is the superior oil at the end of the day.

Hopefully the brakes go on easier

Did the brakes after dinner, now that was a breeze thank god!
yea I think factory uses the dexron atf fluid but I just felt like a good synthetic oil couldn't hurt. I know some give rp a bad rep but then there's also a whole sleu of people that have had good results too, so I feel like it's a toss up for the most part.

either way the fluids didn't look 'bad' but it was obvious that they probably had never been changed, and creeping up on the 60k mark I feel like those are 2 things that pay off to maintain. certainly never hurts anyway!
I take that back... that g8 was hopeless

That's something else I'm going to have done soon as well but currently this batch of stuff has drained me until next month. I'm gonna run some sea foam through it as well.

Well I was bad today and spent more money.
jrob56 had to tempt me with a 3.5" 1 pc DS from Gforce, so I scooped it up.
hoping to install it next weekend and hope it takes some noise out. I swear my current DS clunks a lot..

If it's aluminum, road noise becomes much more obvious. The solid feel of a 1 piece is priceless. A lot of times, clunks are a combo of traits n driveline issues missed at the factory.

Btw, redline d4 quals for dextron. You can find the spec in the back of the bottle.

yup it's aluminum. really wanted carbon fiber but the price and right now availability sold me on it. I'm sure I'm gonna pick up some NHV, but at least that shitty carrier bearing will be gone along with the 'rubber band' feeling.
plus more power to the ground!!
