I read in GM high performance that the 06 will have an alluminum 6.0liter and rated just under 400hp.They also said there will probably be a JUDGE option. They said some asstetic changes will be made, the hood being one,I think.Remember GM is notorius for first year lameness. But after marketing gets some feedback you tend to see changes for the better. For example the first year Z06 385hp,67 camaro smallblocks only,86' IROC-Z (305ci),93'Z28 speed density.Plan on a new GTO....Plan on a more hp and a JUDGE!!!!!!!!!!

Chances are that '06 will not have any drastic changes to the body style. The '07 is the car that will be on the new platform and built in the US - so that's the one that will most likely look different.

First of all the 05 GTO will have the 6.0L LS2 rated at 400hp. Second there is no plan at this time for a GTO JUDGE from Pontiac.

The 06 GTO's will built on the all new VX Commodore platform and the 07 on the new Zeta platform. Though I was under the impression that the VX platform basically is the Zeta platform. The next gen GTO will designed jointly by Holden and Pontiac designers. The 06 GTO is already designed and will look alot different than the 04 and 05 GTO's. Also for FWIW 07 GTO may get LS7 7.0L option if approved by GM management.

One other thing that may be of interest. I'm told that the 06 GTO's may be built in Mexico!

And that is what I'll be trading my '04 for. That or having the then-wife buy one to add to our collection

The VX designation has already been used. The VX Holdens came before the current VY crop of cars so Holden will almost certainly not call the next Commodore VX again. IIRC the next Commodore platform will be codenamed VE and that car will be based off of GMs global Zeta architecture. The '06 GTO will be virtually identical to the '05 in terms of platform and basic mechanicals. It will not be based on new architecture as you stated. It would make no sense to build the '06 off a new platform only to have it replaced in '07. Not to mention that Holden will not receive a new platform until '07 as well. The "new VX Commodore" you're thinking of is actually the VE which itself will be based off of the Zeta platform. So in essence the all new '07 GTO will be based off of Zeta and the new EY Commodore since Zeta will underpin VE (they are in fact the same platform as you speculated).

The current GTO will be around until '06, not '05 and will not be replaced until '07. GM stated this. They explicity said that the GTO would be here for 3 years in its current form and then they would decide from there where to go once Zeta became available.

Thanks for the clarification on the platforms.

FWIW The GTO is based on the same platform as the:

Opel Omega
Caddy Catera
Holden, Commodore, Monaro, etc

The CTS-V is based on the "sigma" platform which is the next generation "Omega". Gm deemed the Sigma platform as too expensive for the crop of mid market RWD cars they're bringing to market so they made a deriviation off the Sigma platform called the Zeta which the 2007 Camaro/GTO will be based off of. So effectivly the CTS is the next generation GTO, (in platform only), but expect there to be some differences between the Zeta and Sigma (I think lower firewall was one of the mentioned atributes).

The current monaro aka pontiac gto is based on the VT platform. This platform has been highly revised and improved, compared with any opel platforms. The VT commodore was released in 97. This was followed by the VX and VY. The next would be the VZ commodore.

The totally new VE platform (otherwise called zeta) would be released in either late 05 (mules) or in 06. The rest of the GM would would see this platform in 07. This will underpin the next gen (06) monaro and the 07 GM cars. Holdens would be the first to use this platform because they are the one develouping the platform.

What adam said about lower firewall is correct. Currently the sigma platform has a high firewall. Holden designed its firewall according to the VT firewall.

Also, there was a leak in gm a couple of days ago about the 05 GTO getting the 6.0L engine with 400hp. The GM website have been pulled down. The 06 GTO would be similar to the current GTO (i.e. same platform). Its the 07 GTO that would be made in a whole new platform.

I heard VZ debuts this year with a new 5 speed auto for slushy buyers.

GMs land of opprotunity, by then the whole car will be made in mexico... the T56 trans and LS6 blocks are already made there its pathetic. I admired the fact current GTO was built in Australia and not by exploited mexicans. Be the case I will have zero intrest in a 06 GTO. American Revolution means what GM?

Ok so I have to wait till 07 for my 65 GTO to have a brother?I really would prefer to have an all american GTO but I think the idea of old and new sittin in the garage might work...That means I can stop abusing the old one!

You realize the engine and tranny (along with who knows what else) still won't be build in the US, right?

Ya I know, thats why it sux...Thats why I think this Grand Prix shoulda been a Tempest or a Le Mans...GTO just doesnt work for it at all...Its not mean enough looking to say GTO...I like the way they drive but it just doesnt visually grab me like the old ones...The Stance is wrong, the hood is bland, the back end looks like a damn sunfire...They shoulda left it a Monaro!
