Default Has anyone installed this cam?

Has anyone istalled this cam? If so what were you impressions.

http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/1981...mshaft-Kit.htm

General questions:
Did you have to pull heads?
How did you secure lifters?
Approx. time needed?
What are your other mods?
Can it be a daily driver with this cam?

Do a search for "HOT cam". You'll find lots of opinions, probably most will be negative. Read them and make your own decision.

As far as cam installation, check out www.installuniversity.com or www.ls1howto.com.

Its a decent cam. But there are quite a few cams out there that are better. Idle quality and power.

I think the search feature is still down....

Please don't waste your money on the notcam. For what you will spend after install and tuning are finished it would have been well worth your money to pop the extra couple hundred on a better cam.

there are hundreds of better cams out there... as far as doing the actual swap, you won't need to pull the heads but you will need to swap the valve springs so you will need to pull a bunch of crap off (coil packs, valve covers, engine covers, rocker arms, etc...) in addition to everything in front to get to the cam. to lock the lifters, you turn it 1 revolution with the upper valvetrain off and it'll stay up. the whole process will take a few hours and many beers. plus you'll need to get it tuned and such.

check some of the vendors to the right for some other cams... don't get me wrong. the hot cam might be good for someone on a budget but dollar for power, it's not worth it to me IMO.

when i was looking around for a cam for my car, i looked at that and the GT2-3 cam from LPE. both decent budget cams but the valve springs they offered kinda scared me away from it. i eventually went with an almost stock idle VHP cam (along with their dual valve springs and 1.8 roller rockers). cool thing is my gas mileage as well as driveablility is the same but have around 50 more horsepower and torque on tap.

don't rush picking cams. if you pick the wrong one, you will regret it later on down the line and will just end up buying the same thing twice. hope this helps.

I have the Hot cam in my 04 GTO as well and the mods done to my 04 GTO M6 are:

LS1 Hotcam kit ($150 used off ls1tech.com, 2,000 miles on kit)
K&N CAI ($220 new)
NGK TR55's (not really a mod, but just to show everything thats done)
Speed Inc. Dyno Tune (Call Speed Inc. for pricing)

Max Power = 341.56 hp
Max Torque = 333.19 tq

Overall I am very pleased with the results, the car pulls hard throughout the rpm range. Next year around this time I will be doing headers and a retune, I obviously know thats when I'll take full advantage of the cam, but I am extremely happy with my results and the power the car has now.

My car is a daily driver and with the tune it is very driveable.

I hope to have numbers like 04StLGTO when I do full exhaust and a retune around this time next year.

Default What is the max Power/Torque this chassis/driveline can handle

I see all these expensive axles and differential pieces for the Holden/Pontiac/Vauxhaul/Opel GTO/Monaro. LSx engines can produce big numbers.

How much power can the driveline and chassis handle stock and with aftermarket pieces. And if with aftermarket pieces, which pieces.

Application would be drag and track day, with some street and autocross.

I got the CompCams custom Speed Inc grind (SI3) 224/224/ 581/581 114LSA and with that cam, 918 springs, titanium retainers, chrome mooly pushrods,P&P TB, K&N cai, LTs and LM II cat back I got 390 RWHP out of the car with a Speed Inc tune.... something to think about...

took us about 6 hours to install, taking our time and having to make some trips to the store. no need to take off the head, but do need to pull the radiator and some other stuff. we used wooden 5/16 dowl rods to keep up the lifters, worked like a charm. you are also going to need a spring tensioner, a air plug to keep the valves from falling when you do the springs, an pulley removal and installer tools if you're changing the UD pulley. and it is my daily driver with no problems.

The GT2-3 is quiet and does not lope. How about the TR220? I do not mean the exhaust note which can be muffled by stock manifolds or sound metallic with headers. Rather, I mean the engine idle.

It's a very good daily driver cam. Though it's not worth, there are far better cams out there. If you are gonna take the time and money to do it I wouldn't use that cam IMO.

Mine is on a 114lsa and current idle is 900 rpm.....it has a nice lope to it.
Doesnt sound like a drag car but you can definately tell its cammed.
