Default Getting in and out of the GTO

I like this car, especially for it's power and handling but my only issue is when I went to look at an '04 as I got out I whacked my head on the roof. I'm only 6'1" so it surprised me that I hit my head getting out of it. I was wondering if anybody else has this problem and thinks it's worth the extra hassle of everytime you get out you have to remeber to duck to own this car?

If you have to duck everytime you get in and out of the car you will end up trading it in. If the car doesn't fit you for whatever reason then eventually all the things you love about it will be outweighed by the daily "headaches". I like my GTO, but have discovered that as my daily driver it doesn't really cut it. The small trunk, the hassle of getting anything in and out of the back seat, and a couple of other things have just grated on my nerves long enough to overshadow the reasons I bought the car in the first place. If you have something else for a daily driver then yes it might be worth it, but how many extra brain cells have you got that you can be whacking your head multiple times a day?

yeah i was gonna say, it can't possibly be as hard as the contortions you have to make when getting in an f-bod. It's an art you have to master and it took me about a week to get used to the low roofline. I'm only 5' 10" but my head was about an inch away from the roof while driving.

Went from a 4th Gen Fbody to a 05 GTO...
The Goat's definitely an improvement.

I guess I'm lucky that I'm only 5'11"

There's always the TrailBlazer SS or the SSR... Same great V8 GM power, but a littler more cargo/head room.

I'm 6'0" and have no problems at all. That was actually one reason I liked the GTO. Most of the other cars I tried out simply didn't fit my big, fat head and still have room for a helmet. As a note, I do have to watch my entry with the helmet on.

The car wouldn't be a daily driver, I have a Sierra C3 work truck for that. It will be to mainly replace my Trans Am I sold last year. I basically want something with a lot of power and that can actually handle well and from what I've read about these cars is they do exectionally well. Thanks for all your input and any more about the car would be appreciated.

I'm about 6'1 and never had any issues getting in and out. I will agree the trunk and backseat issues suck but I can live with them.

I hit my head TWICE when on the test drive of an 04 about 6 months before I bought my 05. I've only hit my head getting in/out of my 05 once since I got it. *knock on wood* I'm also 6'1

I honestly don't think i've driven a car that i didn't bump my head on at least once. Just because it isn't a truck that's going to happen.

I am same height and about 240 and getting in and out isnt bad. I actually have a toddler seat behind me and a rear facing baby seat behind the passenger. Everyone fits believe it or not.

I'm 5'11 and 260.
I whack my head ever once in a blue moon when I'm rushing.
On the rear occasion that I'm sitting in the passenger seat I have to be careful not to hit my head.
You get used to it really quick and shouldn't be a big enough problem to detour you from owning the car.

I can see how making it your Daily Driver and being a Sales person would suck, but why would you get a car like this if you are in and out of it several times a day with crap to lug around?

6ft here and havent hit my head yet.
I also took everything out of the trunk (spare tire.jack, factory tool kit, etc)
making the trunk quite large.. large enough to fit my slicks, floor jack, helmet, cooler and tools for the track..

I am 6'4", i hit my head once or twice when i first got mine, then it just became ingrained and it doesnt happen anymore. i wanted an f-body but the length of my legs put that out and the GTO has more than enough of that. 400hp was worth the few bumps on the noggin i got IMO.

Exclamation

I hate the damned tilt wheel mechanism. Since it is not simple up down like the F-Car, it stays in the "locked" down posistion, and contorting my leg under it is annoying. Especially since I keep my cell phone in my right leg pocket. I ruined a pair of pants getting in one day, It left a nice black outline of my phone on the pant leg . . .

I have hit my head a few times, but to me it was just a fact of a short car.

I too, being 6' + and a little "big" The GTO feels tiny compared to my Camaro . . .

Oh and Microscopic to my Silverado!

I actually miss my 4 door for my daily driver. The GTO may be getting upgraded sooner than I thought.

Blasphemous nonsense. 4 Doors=

The GTO's interior is as roomy if not more so than the F-Body. The problem is that the angle of A-Pillar. That's what I have noticed is the issue. Though the F-Body had a shaper angle, it was much further forward of the seating position.

And yes, the GTO is microscopic next to the Silverado. I used to have one and I always felt that way. Same with it being next to my Expedition.
