Default How fast is a GTO?

Hi guys & maybe girls

How fast is a GTO? I talk from the 6.0L GTO... and when i compare that with the Dodge Charger SRT8... which one is faster? AND how if i compare that with an 01/02 F-Body (WS6 or SS).

Yes, high 12s. In good air at a sticky track a stock 6.0L 6 speed GTO can hit a 12.9 (stock LS1 F-body 6 speeds have hit 12.8s, though also not common) though most are still in the low to mid 13s.
SRT-8s also have solid high 12s potential.

How "fast"? I think it's speed limited to 158 or 159mph in stock form for the 2005+ 6.0L. Removing that it should get up in the 170s

On a cool night a GTO CAN pull high 12s. 13.2 is the most recent i've seen in 90 degree+ heat.
Read a HEAD TO HEAD in a mag recently.. put the srt8 against the GTO.. they liked the SRT8 for its SOP feel and amenities. But the gto eeked it out in drag racing. But neither are drag cars.. they're touring cars. The gto weighs 3700 lbs which isnt 300 more than the mustang GT and probably about what the cobra weighs, and has a 6 speed to go with it. It'll scoot. to 155.. then it shuts down. European versions have a top speed of 180 ish.. i dont know if they are geared exactly the same. (a show i watched said 187 yes MPH.. seems high)

I personally went with the LS2 GTO over the SRT8 due to parking size (at a premium here. dumped my truck for the GTO.. cant really stomach getting in something truck sized) fuel economy .. oh yea.. and the extra $15k+.

THe ls2 may be new but its barely change from genIII LS1 small block and is tried and true.
You can squeeze bunches of horsepower out of it by looking at it funny. Much less spraying it or other nonsense. I dont know what the limit is to the horsepower the block will take.. but guys over at LS2GTO.com have em in the 600s. or so they claim. And an LS7 will drop right in.
THe 04s (LS1) had problems (or so people think) it was made in australia since 98 but americanizing them must have broke something. The 06s seem to be about as perfect as any "american" car.

my 2 cents...

Hmmmm... what would be the effect, when i swap a LS1 5.7 engine in a sexy F-Body with a LS2 of the GTO? I think the LS2 weight less than a LS1 and have more stock HP or shall i (if i get a F-Body) take the money and mod the LS1 5.7??

Stock vs Stock, I beat an SRT-8 on the highway. But it was a real good race.
