Engine compartment looks tight, but that is just because of those huge GTO covers. There is actually more room under the hood than our F-bodies because half of the engine isn't up under the dash like our cars.
Having a trunk will be nice. I miss my Mustang's trunk. Our hatches on the F-body are pretty useless.

Cylinder heads fit perfect in T top well(no rattling around) and when i go racing all my gear and tires fit fine with rear seats folded! Im all set. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

The car definitely looks way better in person than it did in the press release pictures. I was very impressed with it's looks and features. My fiance was so impressed with it, she's contimplating getting rid of her T/A to get one when they come out.

I'd rate it a seven out of ten. I just think it should have dual exhaust tips (one on each side), and it's just BEGGING for a ram air hood.

Bland styling, 3700 lb. curb weight with 340 horses? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> I think not, now when was the fifth gen supposed to come out again?

I can't see that car selling very well to the F-body types. In fact I think they'll be rushing to do a redesign of the thing before the end of 2004. Most people won't be able to tell it from the Grand Am. What an incredible disappointment.

This car will never make it as GTO, call it what you want. NO dual exhaust, no hood scoops, who are they selling this car to . .. .

I agree that the car is missing some of the very GTO things like the hood scoops, dual tips hanging out the back, that can be added. As for it looking like a grand am. the lines are similar however without seeing the two together how can you say thay two are twins. Is like the BMW 3 series and the 5 series are the same way.

3700Ib curb weight??? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> , well i guess my next car is the 03 Cobra, no need to wait for the GTO which will be same price, less power and similar weight.

it kinda does look like a grand am. definitely not a replacement for the f-body. looks like a good family car that you can go cruising in.....thats about it.

I suspect the suspension will be designed around that as well. In other words an American version of the Acura CL-S or Infinity G35 coupe or even the BMW 330Ci . Those seem real popular nowadays, so I'm not suprised GM is building a car to compete in that category.
I will say, it will beat anything in that class in terms of straight line acceleration, but the handling will be up in the air till they hit the showroom floors. I also strongly believe it will be priced right alongside with cars in that class, making a fully loaded one in the neighbourhood of REAL close to $40k or a tad over that.
And to add, the only real competion it will have in that class in terms of straight line accelaration will be the Mach 1 mustang. Thanks to the huge weight increase, I suspect the 345BHP rating will result in slower times than the NA Mach 1. But we all know the LS1 is usually underated, so expect times to be in the 103-105mph range.
PS (disclaimer): these are MY PERSONAL opinions, no need to flame over these comment. As you can see I am a little disappointed in what I thought will be similar to the original GTO (at least in terms of dominance in the musclecar wars), but what it lacks in go, it makes up for in refinements (extra weight) I think.

I don't think it looks like a Grand Am, I think it looks like a PONTIAC. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
Hmmmm.....wait until the "Market adjustment" from the dealers is over with on the GTO or wait out to see IF a 5th gen is coming....or buy the new 2005 Mustang???
Decisions, decisions.

i really don;t like the look of the new GTO; it reminds me of a plain-old ricer...not even a ricer on steriods...
it has no lines... the new concept car - Chevy SS is cool, however...
