Production has stopped and the last shipment was in late September. What a shame because it was a very nice performance car that was truly under appreciated regardless of it's looks.

I think there will be still brand new 06's on the lots of dealer, until the new ones come out. Since "supposely" the new VE SS-V is being imported some as type of pontiac.
I still hear of 0 mile 2004's sitting around.

Had they made it look like the Holden HSV Coupe 4, I'll bet they would have sold all of them quickly

2- Second reason for only planning a 3 year run was the stricter-for-07 airbag regulations here in the US. Even if GM wanted to continue VZ production for the US market only after 06, the added cost of re-engineering the airbag system pushed it over the edge.
3- Due to UAW labor contracts, GM could only import 18,000 units in a year. So, for a 3 year run, you are looking at a total maximum target of 54,000 cars. Total actual production based on demand was 40,757 (~75% of maximum allowed)... Not horrible.

If they had started in '04 with the scooped hood, 18s, and dual exhaust, I think more people would have embraced them right away. The '04 base models were really bland looking, turned off a lot of hopeful enthusiasts. First impressions can be a killer!
IMHO, they should have left the Monaro nose alone like yours HRJ. That would have helped

I dobt it too. The 04's may be singled out because of the differances. But, almost all the 04's have been sold, and there are still brand new 05' floating around. I think that buyers are not looking where it counts. Drive the car, and comment later. I bought mine over the phone. Never test drove it. I knew I wanted it. I did not care what anybody said. Call it bland styling. Most GTO owners call it sleeper.

That could not have happened since the nose on his is from a VZ 05.
The hood did not make it to production in 04 because it was established back in very early 03 that they were going to be making the GTO. The hood was not on the earlier models of the monaro's and thus had not had the 18 month test they needed for them to impliment them into production here stateside. I can't remember what Wanger's said (while I was driving him around) as for a reason why they got the GTO to market with everything it has, but it was because some of the pieces were based upon the Grand Prix which had been in production for >18 month period. By having these pieces in a production car, they were able to pass it through the DOT and could put the GTO into production in less than 12 months.

That bit about Wangers is bunk, as well. Nothing in the GTO is shared with the Grand Prix. The fact he said on national television that the GTO was never crashed tested because it "looked like a grand prix" was the funniest thing most of us had ever heard.
