Default Billet Products Shifter!

For those here that don't frequent the GTO message board. Here is the latest shifter out of Austrailia!

UPS stopped in at about 1:03PM on Wednesday and dropped it off. I had been waiting a while for it. I got the last of the first batch of 5 that were "cosmetically damaged" in shipping from Austrailia to RallySport. Here are a few pics of that "damage":

This is a pic of after me filing down the rough spot were there was a burr that may have not allowed the shifter to sit flat on the transmission!

Install shall take place in the morning if the weather agrees! Review shortly to follow after a few miles and then of course updates as time goes on!

Still looks good, spite the damage. I wanted this shifter since the first day I saw it. So far I have only heard good things about this product. I cant wait till they become more readily avaible. How much did you pay if you dont mind me asking for the "damaged" one?

How does the shifter feel, i've been looking around for a new one. I can't stand the way the stock M6 shifter feels, there's too much movement in it when its in gear.

Read this thread. It has a good description of how the shifter feels as well as another popular brand. If your not a member there, I suggest you sign up.

If you like the feel of a notchy, precise shifter.. the Billet Pro is suiting. I have never driven a car with a GMM, but have felt the shifts while sitting still. Pretty notchy but not as much (I guess driving could change this a little) and shifts are supposed to be just as precise.

It's really a toss up between the two.

Hey Todd. I am going to add my $0.02. I installed a Billet shifetr for a customer. And I have driven his car for about 60 miles now. Comparing this to my GMM. I would rather have the GMM. Both are notchy, but that is due to a solid connection. And not having a rubber mounted upper shifter handle. Also, the shifting gate is way too close. I thought the GMM was super close over the stock and even B&M. But the Billet one is overkill to me. Plus, the Billet shifter takes way more effort to drive than the GMM. I will have a "long term" test drive after I finish up the repairs on this L92/L76 heafty cammed car. Rowing 450 RWHP is a challange with a new shifter and stiffer clutch.

Kurt tell the customer to take the car to the track and shift the hell out of the Billet Pro.. it loosened up for me after only 6 passes. I started off with it on the lowest setting and raced with it on the middle setting. The gates are close as hell but it's damn accurate.

Like I said, it's really a toss up between the two shifters. If I hadn't got in on the Billet Pro when I did, I'd be rowing with a GMM Ripshift, race version as well....

Get us more feedback between the two once it's broken in of course! There are other threads on LS1GTO that could use a hands on comparison too but do it when the shifter is not so new so it's more fair. There's no doubting the Billet Pro is a tight, stiff unit so "break in" is necessary!

Thanks Kurt
