People constantly question is that extra bit of coin worth the Ls2 over the Ls1. I personally think with a few boltons and such an 04 could be running with an Ls2 car no problem. IMO.

im not here to try and get this debate started, but with the cost of used 05/06 cars being so low, you can pick one up for very close to the same cost as an 04, and with the same boltons that an would make the LS1 as fast as the LS2, you can make the LS2 even faster. just my .02

I'am not trying to start with a debate either, this is from what I've seen, coming to think of it I've only really seen a handful of Ls2 cars in the same ballpark of a price as some 04's. So I dont disagree with your statement what so ever.

The interior is the same on all three models of the GTO. The only interior tweaks that I'm aware of are on the 2006. Those upgrades were the addition of a door lock button (located next to the TC button on M6) and lighted steering wheel audio controls. The seat motors may have also been upgraded for 2006. Other than that, they're all the same.
If I were shopping for a pre owned GTO, I'd go with the LS2 powered cars.

If you can find a good price on an LS2 car I would go with that. The LS1 of course gets a lil better gas mileage if that is important. It really depends on where you are in the country. If you live in a cold area then you should be able to get a good deal. Here in AZ the LS2's are still over 20k used and LS1 are at 17k.

As was already mentioned several times, the 04 has the LS1 while the 05/06 has the LS2. Also, the 05/06 have upgraded brakes. Bigger calipers and rotors up front and vented rotors in back. The other major difference is the hood scoops.

Fly-by-wire TB, split exhaust, diff. tail lights, diff. style intrument cluster, lighted steering wheel controls, faster seat motors, and power lock button on center console off the top of my head...

Don't forget the larger brakes (12.6" front/11.2" rear), shot peened ring and pinion for extra strength. I want to say the dead pedal is a bit different as well. Like its molded into the carpet I beleive.

Correct me if I'am wrong but I remeber reading something that the dead pedal in the 05 and 06 cars is intergrated into the carpet, I dont know, its something that is sticking out in my mind. ???

The '04 doesn't have one, but I believe you are right, that the '05/'06 have them integrated in the carpet...
