Putting a K&N filter in your stock airbox is as good as any other choice out there. Some of the so called "cold air intakes" are actually MUCH worse than stock.

If I were getting one, I'd get one of the two with a heat shield (K&N and LPE).

I had a K&N CAI before. I had some troubles with it touching the P/S pully. As well as the tube would get pretty warm, and the IAT sensor was in the area of the heat. So my IAT's were pretty warm.

Went back to a stock airbox and a drop in K&N. I made alot of power with it on the dyno with some nice bolt ons and a cam. But my IAT's were 135* standing still. I could only get them back down to 100* or so driving.

I have now swapped all that for an LPE CAI. The induction tube seams to resist the heat a little better than the stock and K&N tube. The IAT sensor is now located in the air filter inside the "CAI box". Temps are much lower, and I haven't gotten to the dyno to see improvements yet. But I would gather a few ponies were picked up. Of corse, I can't tell due to the new heads and intake added to the mix.

ive got the speed inc , hate it , ive got a nice 3" spot of paint that the filter has rubbed off the inner fender , and it pulls in heat from the headers

im getting the CAI inc box , so i can try and close the area around the filter off so its only breathing fresh air

I have the K&N CAI and besides it looking great, getting better gas mileage, and making the engine a little louder I don't it did much for performance. Maybe a little better throttle response but I think CAI are more responsive on FI motors.

Anyone try the Volant? I've been told that a CAI, IAT relocation, and lower stat can effectively get rid of heat soak.
