Default Looking at buying GTO -What to Look For?

Well the MTO and RIV just homogenized the bumper restrictions for Canada and it appears as though the new age Goat is finally legal in Canada. That being said I have always wanted one, and now intend to jump all over it and try to be on of the first.

So I am asking you, the ls1tech masses, what should I be looking at?

I want to spend 14-15 grand (thats in US monies) so I assume I am limited to the 04's which is just fine by me. Is it reasonable to expect to find a decent gto for the price range, in the michigan/northern ohio area pref?

What are the trouble areas on these cars? I've read about bad seat stiching, and sagging rear springs, what else is a known trouble point?

Also how are GTO's as a daily driver? Are they capable year round?

Sorry if it seems like I'm asking to be spoon fed information, I will be doing my own research as well.

Thanks

sad to say but luckey for you there are 05 GTOs going to 15-16k. their was some problems with strut rub on some cars but that was covered under a TSB and should be taken care of.
I love my GTO it is great happy hunting also try ls1GTO.com they have a ton of info on there about the goat.

I will look at LS1GTO, thanks for the tip! If 05's can be found for 15, I wonder if I could find a nice 04 for 13's and save some dough for mods and importing.

don't count out the '04's

I just bought my '04, mods up the ***, 540rwhp, 12k miles on it

plus it has the 05/06 bumper/hood on it

you'll find a lot of 04's with the 05/06 conversion, plus most of them already have the mods done to them...so you save some there also

I'd look for local boards, in ohio, I go to buckeyegoats.com

I'm sure there is something like that for Michigan.

happy hunting!

a LOT of people seem to like the SAP (Sport Apperance Package)

I see some people parting out their SAP cars (just the SAP parts) and sell them for big $$ and then replace them with regular stock

Good idea. People are nuts for spending money on the SAP stuff. Everyone hated it when it first was produced but since they stopped supplying them the price has gone through the roof!!!!

You would have the best luck on prices in the winter time in that area. I got my 04 PBM M6 in Feb. from Mass. for 14k with 40k miles on it. I live in AZ and the prices out here are still 2-3k more than something from a cold weather climate.

I'm in the same situation (In Canada, and have always had a keen eye for the GTO's). I'll be keeping an eye on this thread I prefer the look of the '04's without all the crap tacked on and single/split exhaust exit... But the LS2 is hard to ignore I'll be looking for something in Northern NY
