Default autocross in an A4

Any pointers? Probably going this weekend for the first time and I'm pumped, but seeing as I drive an automatic, was wondering if there is anything to do to compensate for not being M6.

Put it in second and go. in 99% of autocrosses, you won't ever hit 3rd gear. Baby the throttle, especially in 1st gear, or you will annialate the tires. FYI, autos have been VERY successful at autocrossing.

so shoot for little sliding in corners?

All i've raced on tracks are go-karts that go about 40mph and you can throw those into corners full throttle and slide around, but my buddy said that's a great way to 1) trash my tires, and 2) slide right off the course.

lol

Thats not how i would do it. Remember, slow is fast. If you look fast, you are going slow, and if you look slow, you are going fast.

Exactly what he said, dont be embarrassed to go slow...youll take out less cones that way and your tires will live longer. Be sure to check your tire preasures also.

I went to an autocross yesterday actually. Look at the pic in my sig

I was hoping they were gonna last me at least 1 more month of street driving, but the AX took them out first.

Yes, tire pressures are VERY important. I have 275/40/17s, and I run 32/24

I checked them again after a couple of passes, cuz it got slick again, and the rears were up to 28, as you can tell by the middle of the tires. The next pass was great, and halfway thru the 4th pass, it got REAL slick, so I rechecked my tires. Notice the tread missing on the edge of the tire.

what tire pressures are everyone running? For now, I have what's left of the stock goodyear eagels, 275/45/17s, WS6 TA. I think I had front and rear at 45lbs each.

i did 40 psi in the front and 35 psi in the back.

when i went back home, i put the fronts down to 35 for the highway drive

btw, i didn't hit a single cone and you guys were absolutely right... the slower you go in those corners and maintain your traction, the lower your time goes

went from 61 seconds to 50 flat by the time i left.

I have the extra set of tires on 16 inch rims. Then I have my nicer 17 inch rims on the car now with good tread. What would anyone recommend. Should I do just the rear, swap them to 16s, or all four? Or will I be ok with all 17s.

If your gonna go that route, put some R compound tires on 1 set of wheels, and race on them.
