Drove new Viper - SAAAAWWWWEEEEETTTT!
This was our first autox back at our pre-Katrina site and we were pumped. A new guy (he posts up here occasionally - used to own an F-bod) showed with a 2007 Viper. Nice guy, and nice car.
I got to drive it a few different times over the weekend. At first, I really didn't think it felt that fast. I mean, I never really smoked the tires or locked them up. It wasn't loose or tight. No "surge" in the powerband. No real roar from the exhaust.
I thought all of this . . . until I saw the times I put down. I actually ran a faster time in the Viper on street tires than in my gutted, full bolt on, caged, CP Trans Am with new Hoosier R6s! Now, my car is VERY loose since installing a new T2R and front bar, so I'm sure I could have gone faster - the guy I usually run with finished about 2 seconds in front of me. But, add race rubber to that car and it'd be just as fast as my car.
To quote Ferris - "If you have the means, I highly recommed picking one up!"

My car has 700lb springs w/Koni SAs up front, 175lb springs w/ Bilstein revalves out back; a 35mm, hollow bar up front and 21mm out back; T2R; new 315/35-17 Hoosier R6s all around, gutted w/ partial cage (only 4 pt so far - the rest goes in soon).
The clutch on the car felt fine. I really didn't notice anything about it. It grabbed pretty quickly - there was no need to put it all the way down. One thing that was odd was how non-touchy the gas pedal was. After the first few drives on Sat, I was thinking that the car really didn't have that much power. Then on Sun, I found out that I just wasn't pushing the gas all the way down! Since they're adjustable pedals, it doesn't go "to the floor". The gas is probably twice as long as that in my car.
FYI - update on the car. Another of my friends is co-driving it this weekend at an autox school. Whereas the normal time on the school course is about 36-37 seconds, he's putting down 32 second runs!

SRt10 gen 3 Vipers are sick cars..
The SRT 10 has WON more than a few comparison test against the C6Z06 in various magazines for lap times at different courses..
Now in the 1/4 mile the C6Z06 is running 11.8 at 126 mph on average vrs the SRT10's 12.1 at 122 mph on average..
it's smoking the viper good in the 1/4 mile..but on road corses the viper is " the track darling" as one magazine put it..And right their with or exceeding the c6Z06 lap times..
seems like you had fun..
The SRT10 should weigh 3390 pounds and dyno 440 rwhp and has 13 inch wide bone stock tires..
Your gutted/bolton LS1 should weigh 3250 pounds and dyno 350 rwhp
So not a HUGE surprise that the stock SRT10 put down better times

Yeah - but I'm on race rubber and he's on stock tires! But, I see your point. Amazingly, it "felt" like my car was faster. It seemed like it reacted quicker to throttle inputs and braking. Obviously not - the Viper was just so smooth, like being on silk!

Yea the Vipers do feel very slow..
I had a C5 auto with mild head vams putting out 378/370..
Traded it in for the viper and was really dissapointed with the way the power felt. Thought somthing was wrong with it..
Took it to the same dyno were the C5 put down 378/370 and put down 410/465..
Then pulled out the old trusty gtech type unit and went to a 1/4 mile spot were I had done hundreds of 1/4 mile pulls with the C5..
Best ever with the c5 at 378/370 was a 12.6 at 112 mph off a 2.0 60 ft.
The Viper ran a 12.6 at 116 mph on my third pass off a 2.2 60 ft.....Much faster than my H/C C5. Even though it didnt seem like it.

First, lot looks dusty, and that's not ideal for race tires. Second the tires on the Viper don't suck. I've race new Vipers before too, and they are quick. I won NE Divisionals in I guess it'd have been 2005 in one in ASP. We had nothing more than some shocks/springs and different wheels and Hoosier's. I beat Super Stock pretty soundly (by about 1 second) on one day. And the top two guys in SS that day have 5 National Championships between them (also some of my best friends). We're all pretty comparable drivers.
And um Matthew..... your car is too loose. Soften those rear springs as a start.
