In July I am entering an HPDE event at VIR. I'm pretty sure they require a helmet but I haven't figured out what kind I will need. Any recommendations? I don't have a clue about the different ratings and I don't want to spend more than I need to. Thanks for the help!

go ahead and get a SA2005 certified helmet. not quite yet required to get that rating helmet, but eventually will be. M2005 is still good, and would probably pass any requirement they have. I have a G-Force Pro Force 1, fit and finish is nice. even if its not required, it is ur head, go for the extra bit for helmet. they might also require gloves. also, shoes may strongly suggested.

If so, all you need is an SA2000 or newer helmet (as stated above- might as well get a 2005 helmet).
Pants and a long sleeve shirt are recommended (cotton). Gloves aren't necessary.

^ that works.
Make sure it fits properly and snugly without hurting your head (no side to side play).
Get a closed face helmet if you ever intend on going open wheel or open cockpit lapping (like the cars common at some race schools).

Also, check out this page (although some of the info is dated, it gives you an idea of what to bring and how to prepare).

go to saferacer.com. they have the best prices and a good return policy. i bought the same g-force for only $120, as compared to the ebay price of 150. very nice helmet, comfortable, and looks good in black (matches my car). i exchanged one for a larger size, and only had to pay for shipping back to them, i believe they had free shipping. youd best get something now, and make sure it fits, so you have time to exchange it if it doesnt fit the first time.
