He's a racer, what dark side?

It's just a V8 pony car. One that he has run all year. One that he recently won two more national championships in. And it's a Shelby GT, not a GT500. I read the same thing. It's wrong.

Don't worry, he still has the Camaro.

AFAIK, it's not the "dark side" until he goes with an import nameplate. (Even though I know his business caters to them, and he sponsors some in Pro Rally, etc.) All the more power to him.
He explained all of this in a thread on www.frrax.com. Basically, he wanted to get involved with a current car at least partially for business reasons (new/more customers/expansion), as well as to "try something new". Sam has stated many times that he really likes F/Stock and E/Street Prepared classes, as well as pony/muscle cars in general. So, the way I see it, I give him kudos for at least staying within his own borders as far as nameplates are concerned. After all, he did NOT have to!!

He was in a Shelby GT, NOT a GT500. There is a big difference.

The Shelby GT is a much more balanced, less nose-heavy ride for autocrossing (especially for the "tighter" courses). Besides, the GT500 is NOT F/Stock (Sam's fave class) legal.

Yep, I drove a Mustang.... Have been all year. It is a Shelby GT, not a GT500 as has been pointed out. And GRM is way behind too, I just won Nationals pretty big in it.

Moreover (and this won't make me friends here), I also bought an '07 GT to street drive/setup for F-stock too. Don't blame me, blame GM. No Camaro--still.

I still own my Z28, it's still setup and ready to go. I need to do different things or else I get bored, plus since my business is linked to my autocrossing, a new car everyone once in a while helps pay my bills.

I ran my Camaro twice this year, and I do miss it. Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. And fwiw, I also have a Dodge Ram..... actually I have a Cummins Turbo Diesel, it just has a Dodge wrapped around it!

Call me patriotic. I own one of each from the big 3.

Sam; I, for one don't blame you ONE BIT!! Like you inferred, I'm sure that you will campaign a 5th gen IF it is the least bit competitve in F/Stock, once it is released.

Also, you are ultra patriotic, since the Stang is fully built here in the U.S., with (maybe even?) more domestic content than our f bodies??

Hobbie racers can draw the line on what to drive. Semi and Serious racers will drive anything that has wheels and the possibility of winning.

Good, now use what you learn from the stang and apply it to our cars!
Like the way the shocks are positioned on the rear end for better cornering(theoretically).
